Question:
Anyone with problems with thin liquids after RNY?
I am a month out and get a tummy (not pouch) ache several seconds after drinking water or decaf tea. Doesn't matter if cold, hot, room temp, etc or the amount I drink (tiny sip or normal amount). But I have no problems with milk or carnation instant breakfast. I get thirsty and have to decide if I'm thirsty enough to have my tummy sore for a little while. Just wondering if anyone else has this problem and any suggestions. Thanks! — healthycatt (posted on August 22, 2010)

I had a RNY and always had difficulty with thin liquids until 18 mo post
when I started having difficulty with everything that wasn't yogert
consistency. I had an esophogeal stricture which was helped with a simple
dilation. I'm now 3 yrs post with no recurrance. Talk to your surgeon.

Some liquids do irritate the pouch post op, so right now, it is just trial
and error. Everyone is different so try a luke warm broth, but do try to
get in some fluids, try jello, protein, as you don't want to get
dehydrated. Sip, then wait a little while and sip again. Your pouch is
still very swollen and tender and sensitive. As time passes, and the
swelling goes down, you will hopefully be able to tolerate these items. It
will change as time goes on.
