Question:
still losing
Hi I went to the doctor today. I had the staples removed. I lost 3 more lbs, thats a total of 14lbs in a week, I hope I keep losing so ready to get this weight off. — JANIECEMOM (posted on May 19, 2010)

Those first few weeks, we lose alot of water weight. Depending on the type
of surgery and your beginning weight, you will loose quickly for a few
weeks or even months, then things will level off. Later, things will slow
down immensly. This is normal. Don't fret. As long as the scale is
moving at all, you need to let the surgery work. 14 lbs a week won't last
long enough to please you; but that would be unhealthy over many months.
Expect that you will eventually see a plateau also. Some bodies give up
weight steadily, then need to take a break for a few weeks. The other area
to watch is your measurements. If you haven't already, get out the tape
measure and do waist, chest, bicep, calf, hips and thigh. When you do get
into a plateau, these numbers seem to keep changing.

Great points Kimberly! Also, no matter if you're one that hates to take
photos, please make sure you take at least one full body front, and side.
You'll be amazed to see the change!

Because of some endocrinological issues, my weight didn't come off quite as
fast as I wanted it to. You have to prepare yourself for the long game.
There will be weeks where the numbers just drop like rocks. Then there
will be weeks where you watch the scale and wonder what it is that you are
doing wrong. Me... I am a bit OCD and watch the scale way too often.
But... I place a higher priority by how I FEEL and how my close feel
because you will find that a lot of times, the scale stays put while your
body is shrinking. Muscle weighs more than fat so you will go through
cycles where you will be losing body fat but the scale will stay the same
even though inches are sliding off. Then suddenly BAM you step on the
scale and another 5 lbs are gone.
For me... it is all about doing the right thing. I take my protein twice a
day. I keep my overall calories pretty low. I watch what I eat very
carefully and measure and weigh everything, making choices based on what is
the most nutrient dense. If I ever feel like I am getting a bit fast and
loose with food, I drop back down to the beginning, liquid for a week, mush
for a week, build it back up to keep that pouch nice and tight. I work out
like crazy... I trust that the life changes that I have made will get me
where I want to be and let my body do the rest. And while 80 lb at 7
months isn't stellar... it is a lot better than still weighing in at 270!
