I love my lap band. Its been the best thing that I have ever done. I
tossed back and forth between the lap band and the RNy....but this was the
best choice for me personally.

i have to agree with melisa's answer. i didn't have a choice due to other
health issues, but i have had no ill
affects from lapband surgery. i have had an 80 lb loss and have kept it off
for 2 years now. the band is still doing it thing just fine. after reading
the horror stories with bypass surgery i thank god that i choose lapband. i
can still eat everthing i loved before it but just in the correct portions.
what is the down side of that?

I am so glad that I did LapBand! I'm 14 months, down 126# and have not had
an adjustment since last July. I am off ALL my meds and I feel great. I
bought new some last week and I am in a size 8 for now! This from a 3X or
24-26 prior to surgery. LapBand was the best choice for me.

I love my realize band, I have lost since the band 30lbs in less than 2mo.I
have had no regrets, I also can eat all the foods I ate before, except
less. No soda, no caffeine!! I have came off my diabetes medication, and
have lots more energy, My aches and pains are rare now, I am 42 yrs old and
have had major surgeries too, like back and neck fusions and bilateral hip
replacements, I wish I had done this a long time ago, Good Luck and God
Bless.

My husband and I both had the Realize band put in last year (12/2008). We
both get sick on a regular basis. I had VSG done 12/2009 and I am much
happier with this choice! Even with some fluid taken out of our bands, we
end up throwing up about 3-5 times per week. There are some days we can't
eat anything, other days we can eat whatever without a problem. When I say
whatever, I am referring to foods that fit within the food plan - chili,
other proteins, soup even. We eat little to no bread products, little
pasta, etc. Our doctor said they are finding the band not to be as great a
choice as was first believed. Insurance companies are covering VSG now
because they are realizing that the band requires constant life long
maintenance that other procedures are not. The VSG removes the stretchy
part of the stomach, so once you adjust, you can't eat any more than what
they have determined, 3-4 fl. oz. Also, if you have any other health
issues down the road, there is no other problems with reaching the area,
such as with the bypass and RNY. My mother and friend both had bypass, but
I didn't want to worry about access if needed in the future. My friend has
done great; she looks like a whole new person. My mom choses not to eat as
suggested, so her weight loss has been limited. I've lost about 25 lbs
since surgery, but weight loss is considered to be slower after having the
band, so my doctor was happy with that. Some people have great results
with the band, others dont. Just be aware of the possibilities of smaller
type complications.
