Joann,
You may be eating too fast or too much. try slowing down and eating really
small portions.

You may also be eating things that are higher in fat, that can give you
horrible gas

I get terrible gas and not only after eating. I'm on my 2nd week post-op
and I'm in the bathroom constantly. I believe it's partly due to the
surgery, partly due to the intestinal track clearing itself out and of
course, it helps if you eat slowly and don't swallow a lot of air.

I've found carbs to be my worst enemy because of their gas inducing
properties. I've heard others report lactose intolerance and with that
comes a lot of gas so watch the dairy products too. That said you can only
cut so much out of your diet so try Beano, Devrom and the Gas-X products.
You'd need to take them daily because you want to keep it from forming, not
try to treat it after the fact.

for me..if I eat the artificial sugars they give me horrible painful gas. I
try to avoid them anymore. Also some veggies do. I avoid them. I eat very
little that isn't protein. I am 20 months out. Last summer I had the
doubled over gas attacks. Was not pretty and don't want that again! Gas
pills helped a great deal! Best of luck to you! Hugs,Kim

Everyone has stated a lot of why, and they are absolutely right. I am 2
1/2 years out and this still happens occasionally. I find that if I lay in
a the tub the water takes the pressure off when I am doubled over making it
easier and sometimes quicker to relieve some of the gas.
Best wishes to you.

It appears to me from reading all of the above ... it could be anything and
everything that causes gas from carbs, to artificial sweetener, to eating
too fast, too much .... I think its something we will just have to live
with and keep Gas-X very close.

I was told to stop eating gum, sucking on mints and watch the food that
causes gas. She told me to buy beano or other gas pills try the one at
walmart, see what works best. kaybusk oh and be careful with peanuts oh

Thanks for everyone's suggestions. I do take beano pretty regularly. I know
I use more things with artifical sweetners as we arn't suppose to have much
with sugar in it. I've always had trouble due to irritable bowel, but has
been worse past few months and i'm almost one year out. I do find myself
eating faster, habit from being a nurse and having to hurry through meals.
Also my appetite has increased and I know due to stress i've been eating
more. I will try all your suggestions and appreaciate everyone's time in
giving me their advice. Best to all. JoAnn

I'm with the other post....GasX was my best friend as well, and still over
3 years post op, I still use it, not everyday, but still need to take
it....and I don't want to discourage you, but I still double over
sometimes, but the truth is, I doubled over some before my surgery, but Gas
X works well. Beth
