Question:
I am not losing weight anymore why?
The weight is not coming off like I thought it would. I had a lap band on Dec 8. I have not lost anything this week. I find I do not know what to eat I still have a week on pureed I started back to work and by lunch I was starving. I had a boost for breakfast and a yogurt at snack time but at 12 my stomach was growling . At lunch I toasted a piece of bread actually burnt a piece of bread put peanut butter on it and chewed it to death it was not pureed but by the time I shallowed it was pretty much just liquid. I just can not understand why the weight is not falling off. I am really bummed today, gave up all the christmas treats and still the scale has not moved. Any wisdom welcomed — Figler5 (posted on December 29, 2009)

I didn't have the lapband, but don't rely just on the scale to tell you
that you are losing weight. You might be losing inches, and that won't
show up on the scale as a loss. Take your measurements and don't weigh
yourself much. I do know however, that with the lapband, you lose weight
at a much slower rate, then if you had the RNY or other type of wls. Hope
this helps. Pureed is the same as soft food. So, you could eat pinto beans
w/cheese, mashed potatoes (thinned down), you will need to watch the carbs,
but more later on, not so much right now. You can have oatmeal, malt o
meal, s/f pudding, basically, I put everything in the blender and added
broth or water to it. So I ate what my family ate, just blended. soup
with chunks, right into the blender. taco's/burritos, blender. I didn't
use a lot of the tortilla, but the fillings, right into the blender with
water or broth. LOL Then I put items into those 4 oz plastic cups and froze
them for later.

A very good friend of mine had gotten the lap band and to date he has
already lost 76lbs and its been about 7 mths.. and he also told me that in
the beginning he had the same problem, most importantly though you must
follow the strict diet and exercise to get the most out of your band.
Remember that this is a tool to help loose weight and you have to work with
it. I am getting GB-Surgery in less than a week and I did alot of research
and wanted the band myself however the Dr said I "would'nt" be a
good canidate for the band because of my wavy espophagus that I would be
miserable and have alot of acid reflux and he also said that the band is a
much slower process and the most weight loss comes from the bypass? This is
what he said but I know someone else who got the band and he did ok, but
its just a slower process but just do what what your supposed to and you
will NO DOUBT loose weight ( you said you got the band on 12/8 so your just
in the beginning stages) be patient and good luck and give it 5-6 mths and
then look in the mirror, it'll work-take care

If people in general would just do some quick research about that first
month post-WLS, you would know that in that first month, you can even gain
weight! Your body is recovering from having surgery, you retain fluids,
and things need to regulate. I know of several people who gained their
first month out. It's natural. Keep doing what you are doing and the
weight will come off! Don't worry!

I don't have an answer per se to your question (I had RNY) but with all WLS
surgery there will be period that you won't lose wait and keep in mind that
will the lap band your weight loss window is often times longer than the
other surgery (up to 3 years is what I think my doctor said) but to ANYONE
that posts a reply --- be careful in how you phrase your response.

I had RNY 18 months ago. I haven't lost any weight since July. My surgeon
wants me to lose another 20 lbs. and I want to lose 30, but I'm not
stressing over it. You are probably losing inches.
The toast really isn't a good idea right now. I can eat some bread but I
rarely do. I can't eat hamburger buns at all.
Don't get bummed, think positive and follow your doctor's orders.

You are being too hard on yourself. The weight is not going to
"fall" off, you have to work at it. The swelling from the
surgery has had time to go down, so you are more hungry. It will be this
way until you get a fill. Get all the protein you can...it keeps you full
longer. FF cottage cheese with applesauce is filling, ricotta cheese with
a little spaghetti sauce is filling, liquid protein shots will give you
energy and you can put almost anything in a blender. You are doing all the
right things. Take small bites, snack often, chew well and you will be
successful. Give yourself some time! Good luck!

Maybe boost up your exercise and walk a little faster, or a little further
each time. Water water water!!!! Make sure you're getting all that in,
and also make sure and keep measurements of your body, I lost 23 inches and
the scale hadn't moved at all, so it's probably changing in some way!
