Question:
one week

I am 59 years old and getting RNY surgery in just about a week. I am starting to get really nervous. Help. I also have to start my liquid diet on Monday for a week all through christmas and boxing day. Wish me luck on that. I know I have to do it.    — cuppaloopy (posted on December 19, 2009)

Hi! Are you nervous about surgery, the holidays? I had to do two weeks of liquids before my surgery 2 DEC and that was during Thinaksgiving and I even cooked. You stay with the fluids and protein and you stay full. Just remember that next you there will be a new you at that table. I had my soup that I sipped durin dinner and my family pigged out. I am 51 so I can understand concern about surgery. If you are re-considering the surgery, and I may get blasted for this, then don't do it. The RNY cannot be reversed and more than anything you have to do it for you. Please let us know how you are doing and if yu need support send a yell out and I will be glad to tell you what I have learned so far. Take care and good luck.

Barbara, remember that Christmas is all about the gifts we were given from as far back as Bethlehem.....this is no exception. This liquid diet is going to make you prepared for the best gift you have ever given yourself.....the gift of second life. Think of that every time you eat your liquids.....we are the BEST gifts we can ever give ourselves!!!!!! You will remain in my prayers...........

Barb: I know you may be nervous but try to remember how good you will feel knowing there is a light at the end of the tunnel. I am post-op rny(10-22)and it is amazing how much better I feel now and have only dropped 43 pounds. THe presure off my joints is incredible, I use to wake up so stiff and sore, barely able hobble around until the kinks got worked out.. Now I jump out of bed feeling great. Knowing my diabetes is at bay is he best gift I have given my family and myself. My only regret is I didn't have it sooner. The liquid diet pre-op for me was a mind set. I just approached it like there was no other option. It worked. Good Luck.. I know you can do it!

Hi. I am 10 days post op and feeling fine. Family doesn't know, just hubby and a couple of good friends. Have told everyone that I am on a liquid diet to lose weight. Previously did Optifast so no problems there. I was a little worried because of my age but knew I had to do something. Best of luck in your journey to health.

Barbara, I am on a strict "liver shrinking" diet until my LapBand surgery on 12-30. I am 52 years "young". They did tell me I could cheat a little on Christmas day though. Figure I'll load up on protein with just a spoon of the other stuff. I'm looking forward to seeing less of me next year. Good luck. You can do it. Just think, we'll be healthier and lighter in 2010!!!

My RNY was Nov.23. It was the strangest Thanksgiving ever. I came home the day before so there was no family Thanksgiving for my husband and me. Everyone sent him plates of food and that kept him fed for several days. Its a truly "last chance" surgery. I had soo many health problems that I knew I would die this winter without the surgery. Just went to a family Christmas party on Sat. Everyone pigged out and I brought a soft scrambled egg with a tiny amt of low fat mayo and I never once felt I missed out. My liquid diet stage was not clear liquids so I drank sf carnation instant breakfast with my protein powder and the 8 days went by quickly. Best of luck. The 1st 3-4 days I couldnt believe what I had done to my body but one mth out and Ive lost 40 lbs and feeling much better than before the surgery. Best of luck and Merry Christmas. Do what another did. Bring a beautiful goblet to drink your protein or liquids and have a blast!!
