Question:
I am post-lap band and need help!

For some reason, I am not losing - I'm 8 weeks post lap-band, writing down everything I eat, and yet I'm staying the same weight-wise. I even exercise 1 hour every day. I wonder if anyone has some tips... I'm due for a fill on Monday but I'd love to lose at least a pound before I go! Thanks... Lin    — LinnieJean (posted on December 3, 2009)

I had this issue as well and 8 weeks post op. I started to workout 5 days per weeks with 30 minutes of cardio and 3 days with strength training. I tend to eat 30-50% of my protein needs from meals and the remaining protein from protien shakes. I begin to lose 1-2 pounds per week.

Make sure you are eating only when hungry (if more than 2-4 times a day, you need a fill). Stop when you are full. Make sure you are taking 5 min. between bites (it takes your brain 20 min. to register that you are full. Take small bites and chew them well. Make delicious, nutritious recipes for yourself...buy at least one of Chef Dave Fouts cookbooks and experiment. Your meal should consist of at least 50 protein. Fill half of your plate with meat and the other half with fruit and vegetables. Take one bite of meat for every bite of anything else. Avoid nutrition low foods, foods high in carbs and starches, junk food, etc. Eat your meal, don't drink them (you'll stay full longer...liquids go through too fast). Don't drink with your meals (it washes the food through too fast) or for 30-60 min. following your meal. Avoid snacking. If you're hungry, eat a nutritious meal. Exercise is good, but try to mix it up with different kinds and add more activity to your daily routine (take the stairs, park farther away and walk farther, etc.). This will keep your metabolism going. Don't starve your body of protein and vegetables, or you will go into starvation mode and your metabolism will shut down. Junk food will leave you with cravings and cause you to get hungry again sooner. I hope this helps. Have a Blessed Christmas.

Kim, thank you... I appreciate all of your comments. I do take my time eating, I don't do junk food, and I write EVERYTHING that I put in my mouth down. When I went to the surgeon for the fill, I was OK until I got home, and then realized I could not keep anything down. So, the band was a little overfilled. Now the problem is that I live in Northern NY where we are getting a huge snowstorm. I won't be able to get back to the surgeon to have some of the saline removed until next week (he is 2 1/2 hours away! So, thank you for your comments.. I'll be on liquids for awhile but will heed your advice... Lin :O)

I'm working out here at home with the Jillian Michaels DVD's and also at the gym (when I can get there) once or twice a week. I am self-employed and it's hard to always get there. Lin

remember that this time frame is called Bandster hell for a reason. Until you start having fills and get restriction the weight loss is often minimal.
