My only regret is that I didn't do it sooner (I am going to be 60 next
week)! I could have had great fun with my children! Better late than
never:)

I had RNY 8/28. I have had a few complications but wouldn't undo it for
the world. I love how I feel and now that I am starting to get the hang of
what to eat and when I love my new self.

Unfortunetely, I am one of the ones with complications. Have not been able
to eat for 4mos. Have no energy and my quality of life is aweful. Regret
the surgery and would never recommend it.

ABSOLUTELY!!! I had RNY 2/28/08 and have lost 191.8lbs, hoping to have
lost 200# by the end of the month for my one year anniversary. My friends
and family say that I have come alive this past year. I wish I had not
waited until I was almost 50 year old to do it. Best of luck to you and
congratulations for moving forward with your life!!!

5 years later and still 150 lbs lighter...Happier than I've been my entire
adult life, thinner than I've been since I was in my 20's...Disease free,
pain free, medication free, acid reflux free, high cholestreol
free...Okay...I've had some vitamin deficiencies and after research and
educating myself...I am deficiency free as well! Yeah, I have NO regrets!

To be truthful there have been those days when I wondered if I have done
the right thing....but overall, I am so happy that it is done and I'm on
the road to better health.
I had my rny on 11/21/08 and have lost 50# in less that 3 mo. If I could
exercise more I'm sure I would have lost even more, but because of
unexpected health problems (not related to the surgery) I havn't been able
to add that to my regular routine.
One thing I would discuss with the doctor is .... "what changes in how
my body handles illness's like the flu or food poisoning? Will there be
issues I have to deal with?
I have been battleing a cold/flu (???) for the past several weeks that
mainly is depositing tons (and I literaly mean tons) of sinus drainage down
my throat. So needless to say I have been throwing up repeatadly getting
rid of this stuff. I'm having trouble keeping enough liquids down ane
although I've talked to my GB Surgeon and my Internish on the phone, I
still have to wait until the end of next week to see one of them.
Because of other health issues I'm not able to take otc meds that
combat nausea, and would help break-up the junk so I could either get rid
of it quicker or it would stop (this would be my first choice)
There certainly have been times in the last several weeks when I wondered
if having the surgery was worth it, but I think all told it is.a
Good luck on you surgery...keep me posted, if you have it soon we'll be
going through many of the same challenges at the same time and could really
be 'buds'.

Hi Marcia, Due to many complications from surgery I can't say at this point
that I would do it again. For the first month after surgery I kept wishing
I could erase it all and would have never had the surgery. I have lost
more than 50 pounds in 2 months. I know some of that is because I have been
so sick and even tho I still don't feel like celbrating my weight loss yet,
I do know that eventually I will be happy I had it done.

I have to say that I fervently wish I could un-do the surgery that I had 17
years ago. I had VBG, and was never able to lose very much weight at all
with it. I still have severe restrictions on what I can eat and how much,
but don't have the weight loss to show for it. But, my case is unique, and
I don't want to let it influence you in your decision. You must do what
you feel is right for you, after consulting with your doctors and giving it
a lot of serious thought.

Marcia, don't second guess yourself, go for it. It will allow you a freedom
like you've never known. I wish I could do it again. The only drawback is
all the food commercials just drive you crazy. Concentrate on your ultimate
goal and everything will be fine. Good luck, Cheryle

Hi Marcia, I am still "fresh" from surgery at about two weeks
out. At this point, I do have second thoughts. I feel crappy all the time
and have no energy. I knew that this was going to happen and I know all the
things that I am supposed to be doing. The problem is that knowing and
doing are two different things. I don't have ANY energy, at all!! I lay
around the house most of the day, trying to keep my mind busy. I can never
find the right thing to eat and am not even sure when I am hungry, or if it
is just head-hunger.
I know that things will get better, but I just want you to be prepared for
the "down time" after surgery. You will probably find yourself in
a bit of a depression right after, but I think that's normal.
Please do all your homework, make sure that you are fully prepared for the
surgery AND for coming home afterwards. I've found the last two weeks very
difficult and I hope that you won't feel the same way.
Good luck to you.

Marcia, I can say I too only regret I didn't have it sooner. My surgery
was 8/28/08 and I have lost 91 lbs. Make sure you get involved in a
support group because it is very helpful to they be around other folks that
are going through the same experiences that you will be. Make sure you
have a full understanding from your dr and nut on what kind of diet you
should follow afterwards. Every dr is different and so is everyone that
has this surgery. Remember it is a tool and not a fix all, you still have
to to learn to fix your thoughts and actions. You must learn how to
"EAT TO LIVE" NOT "LIVE TO EAT".

Marcia, I am almost 3 months out. I have had many complications and still
have issues with eating but I would do it all again in a minute. You will
be so happy in the long run. I still feel as large as I was (56 lbs gone)
but am getting better every day. keep in touch and you will be in my
thoughts.

Marcia, WLS was the best decision I ever made in my life. My health and
quality of life have improved 100% in only 5 months. I can't say it isn't a
challenge at times, but I am so thankful I was able to have this surgery
and save my life! I am 57 years old, and I am feeling 35. For a long time I
felt 80!! My only recommendation is to go to a really good doctor and
hospital and follow the program they give you. The other thing is exercise.
It will help you with the low energy you may experience for a while, and it
will boost your weight loss tremendously. By exercise I simply mean what
you are able to do, but do it consistently...you'll be glad. Best of luck
to you with your new (improved) life!! Susan

Hi Marcia,I truely wish I was one of those with the happy ending story but
after seeing Dr. Shikora for a year, my sister had the surgery. I was
suppose to have it the following week but Nancy died from poor post op care
and never made it out of the surgical unit. His trial is next week in
Boston. Think twice and make a will :( good luck
