Question:
OTC carb control
I am post op 40 pounds lapband. I am excited about my weight loss but I still struggle with carbs. Does anyone out know any good pills/suggestions for controlling carbs. — savoy7658 (posted on December 21, 2008)

Pills to control carbs? Honey, if that existed, why would you need WLS?
Call your nutritionist and your doctor. They've missed the boat educating
you on managing your life after WLS. There's no magic pills. As far as
carbs, some people eat them, some don't. My best suggestion is to EAT YOUR
PROTEIN FIRST AT EVERY MEAL. Then, if you have room, eat your veggies and
THEN, AND ONLY THEN, if you have room, eat some carbs, in the form of whole
grains and fruits. I wish you luck in your journey.

I am allowed carbs, but this is what I do (surgeon approved) - eat 4 bites
of protein to every 1 vite of veggies, 4 bites of protein to every one bite
of cards. I always make well rounded food in your house for me and my
husband. Meat group, veggie group, potato group. milk group. etc. when I
feel a craving for cards, I eat something else, or drink a ton water, go
for a walk - channel the craving elsewhere. I got to the point to where I
have them now, I just think about doing something else and it goes away -
brain trickery.

Definitely eat your protein first. And drink whatever you're drinking.
Carbs so be last on the list; also do some exercise if you think the weight
is coming off too slowly; as always check with the doc first.

Unfortunately, it is YOU who controls the carbs...Don't buy them if they
are causing you trouble/can't resist them...Plan your meals and snacks and
eat only what you have planned...Always have some sort of protein or
veggie/fruit snack alternatives...It works for me as an RNYer...but when I
have carbs in the house...I cannot resist them all the time...I just don't
buy them....often :)

Pills? They don't work. If they did, there would be no over weight people
in the world. Besides, you already had weightloss surgery and I imagine you
must have a real commitment to your health. So, stick to the plan and eat
healthy. You don't need carbs. If you have cravings, drink some water and
go for a walk. If you go back to old eating habits, the weight will come
back too. Good luck.

The problem with carbs is that the more you eat, the more you want to eat.
They just make you hungry. For me, the fewer I eat, the less I want to eat
of any thing and the more in control I am. This has been a hard lesson for
me to learn and I'm still struggling with it but I know that it's true!
Good luck! Fight the carb monster! He is evil!
