Question:
Nausea/Vomitting 7 weeks post op
I am 7 weeks VSG post op - my stomach has always felt weird, but now I constantly have nausea/vomitting, my liquid intake is down to 3 ounces per day. I was initially at 18 to 20 ounces of liquids. Now the smell of food or to even look at it is very sickening. Does anyone else feel like this? My stomach just has a dull pain in it. — MLynneB (posted on December 16, 2008)

It may be that you have a stricture, maybe you need the opening stretched a
little. Call your doctor. You really need 64 ounces of water/liquid and
60-70 grams of protein a day. I hope things get better soon for you. tc and

You are probably dehydrated. The more dehydrated you get the sicker you
feel. Also, if you're not taking an acid blocker (like prevacid or
something like that) you should be. The acid build up can also make you
feel nauseated. I'm willing to bed you are dehydrated, so please get
checked out.

You should definetely call your surgeon. It sounds like you might be
dehydrated. You have to make an effort to get at least 64 oz of fluid and
60 gm of protein. Good luck.

Call your surgeon immediately, it is not normal to be nauseated like that.
Good luck!

When things go from good to worse...It's usually a big red flag to call
your doc/surgeon...Don't ignore these signs sweetie...call or go in asap!
I do sometimes feel this way when I am starting a cold...especially with a
nasal type cold...The sinus drip at night emptying into my pouch totally
irritates it and leaves me feeling nauseous and a dull achy pain
there....So it could be something simple as getting over a cold...but only
a doc can tell you and get you feeling better.

Just thought that I would update everyone, I did call my doctor and he is
referring me to a gastro doctor. He feels that I have a stricture of some
type. However I can't get an appointment until December 23. I'll just
keep trying to drink until that time. He did warn me that if I seem to be
getting worse to call him immediately. I just want to say thank you all
for helping me with this problem. For the first time since surgery I don't
feel like a freak. As many of you know that people without weight issues
or people that deny them are very judgemental.

Mona,
Glad to hear you have an appointment. Suggestion, call the surgeon back
and ask if he can prescribe something for the nausea so that you can feel
better and try to get in more fluids so you don't end up even sicker. You
can't survive on only 3 oz fluid per day... it's just not healthy or safe.
I don't want for you to spend your holidays in the hospital or feeling
rough.
Best of luck,

I am 6 wks out from a vsg But I have had a lot of acid at times and the
best thing is the Anti-acids and fluids other than water. Adding the
littles tubes of Hydration powder has worked for me.
