Did you have open RnY surgery? You might want to heal up a bit before
starting anything really hard on your body. Remember the depletion of
protein and vitamins in your diet. Make sure you are taking your vitamins.
I started by walking. Walking is one of the best exercises you can do for
your body. You will burn calories and tone your legs. I dont know how
much you need to lose. I was 455 so I started with walking and had to use
a walker to do that. But I was waking 2 days after surgery a little at a
time. Once I had lost 100 pounds I went to freetrainers.com and started a
work out program there. Exercise is an ABSOLUTE necessity in this change
of lifestyle. Good luck

Yep...walking is good...You have to work your way up to workouts anyway. I
was walking...and not much else Post Open RNY because I couldn't lift
anything heavy for quite a while (3 mos) I had pain for at least 6 months
and I didn't think it would ever stop hurting...but it did. I swam alot but
like you, got tired fast...I think the pain was exhausting more than
anything! LOL You can even use 16 oz (1 lb) cans of soup and do arm curls
with them just to help with muscle toning. Wear ankle/arm weights when
shopping or walking...Or pack a back pack with maybe 5-10 pounds and walk
with that...Just watch you don't pack a back pack with stuff they sell in
the store you shop in!!! Just in case! If you are like me...Your purse
weighs a good 10 pounds anyway...If you carry it on your back it
distributes that weight evenly and it's easier to carry. It's a start! I
just got a $10 pedometer that counts how many steps I take...Having it on
makes me take the long way to get more steps in! LOL It's a challenge! I'm
usually up for a good challenge!

I had the GVS July 22nd. I am walking at least 3-5 miles a day, and started
at the gym slowly Aug. 18th with a trainer 3 times a week, but it's really
up to how your body feels and can handle it.

With all due respect to the nutritionists, I would prefer to get advice
from my surgeon regarding exercise - how much you can do and when. My
reasoning is that your surgeon is monitoring your physical condition and
therefore knows better what is safe for you to do at this point and what
might be considered too much too soon.

I started working out about 4 weeks after surgery. But quickly learned to
not over-do it. I walked too far and too fast on the treadmill one day and
for days after felt like I pulled something on my left side. So I took it
easy for another couple of weeks. Your body will tell you what it too much
... listen to your body and you will be fine. Take it slow and gradually
build up to a good workout. Good luck!

Walking is great. Water aerobics are the best, IF your totally healed from
the surgery!. It has the least resistants for your joints and you get a
wonderful work out. If you have so many doubts about your surgeon, can you
change to someone you trust?

I am 62 and started two weeks after surgery. I only did 5-10 minutes the
first week, but I did more and more each day until I got to 1-1/2 hours.
Take it slow, but start.

Your "nut" (nutritionist?) is a certified N-U-T. Seven weeks out
from surgery, even if it was "open" surgery with lots of closure
stitches, in not too soon to start an exercise program. Begin with baby
steps and work your way up from there.

To start, I am 6mos. post-RNY and have lost 80 lbs. I also have a Masters
Degree in Exercise Physiology and your nutrisionist is nuts. Like others
have said, they started walking in the hospital the next day after surgery.
Four to six weeks is a good time to start exercising unrestristed. P
