Question:
Can the anathesia or anything cause hearing loss.
I had lap band surgery on Tuesday. To begin with after I awoke, I thought my ear needed to 'pop'. But it has been 2 days and I can't hear out of my left ear. It feels like there is pressure in it. I wonder if the gas could be stopping up my ear or something. — tunnell (posted on May 29, 2008)

I hadn't heard of anything like this happening before, but, I guess it's
possible. You should call your surgeon and speak with someone there about
it.

It's not impossible that its surgery related, but its not a common
complication. If you were asking this at any other time (ie. not after
surgery) I'd suggest taking a couple doses of sudafed and increasing your
fluid intake, but I'm not sure the sudafed is a great idea post-op--you
should already be drinking quite a bit.
Just to be on the safe side, call your surgeon or doctor. I'm sure its
nothing to worry about, but if its an ear infection or something, getting
it dealt with sooner, rather than later, is going to make your transition
easier.
Hang in there. :)

Could be related... My first thought was referred pain/tension from a
muscle in your back - from being strapped to the surgery table. Or it
could just be built up pressure from allergies... If it continues, talk to
your doc.

It is most likely from pressure on your sinuses while you were intubated.
My sinuses were swollen for a WEEK after surgery and hung like GRAPES at
the back of my throat! After a week they receded to their proper place.
Give it a bit of time and I bet you will be fine. If it does not get
better in a week or so, I would consult a physician.
I hope this helps,
Hugh
