It is not removed unless you want it removed. It will serve its purpose
for as long as you want it. I plan to keep mine forever! It is the will
power boost I have always needed. That is one of the big reasons I choose
the lap band over gastric bypass - I know several people who lost weight
quickly after gastric bypass and then regained it. The with the proper
restriction of the lap band, we will always be reminded we have to eat
right, and hopefully keep the weight off.

If you check out the Inamed website, they advise that the Lap Band protocol
is not to have the band removed unless required due to medical problems.

Generally, just enough saline is kept in so you maintain your weight

Hi Alice. Some people do have their bands removed after losing weight, but
most people do not have it removed. Returning the stomach to normal size
is usually too much of a temptation to handle, so they keep their banding
for life. Take care. Patricia P.
