Question:
I had RNY gastric bypass 6 years ago. Can I have lap band procedure done now.
I had RNY gastric bypass 6 years ago. I went from 285 to 185 I am now at 220. I don't want a revision and go through the long recovery. I would rather have the lap band procedure done, but I don't know if that is possible. I am searching for doctors now to ask the question, but I wanted to know if it was possible before I get my hopes up and start calling around. — LA TONYA B. (posted on August 20, 2007)

I've belonged to a couple bandster groups in yahoo groups for years....and
we have had members that have had the lap-band placed over a
current/previous RnY/GB. Your healed stomach and attached intestines would
be no different to adding the band to an unaltered stomach...a pouch is a
pouch....you might just have a little less of one.... Discuss it with your
surgeon because it is possible. :)
Good luck!

You should probably get the revision done laproscopically! Faster surgery,
less pain and a lot faster healing too! The lap band seems to cause a lot
more problems than the rny! Read these every day and rny is the way to go
for sure!

Stomaphyx is definitely the way to go. Engineered especially for folks who
are out 3 years + from their surgery who have enlarged pouches/stomas, this
is done down the throat and is not as invasive. Check it out on google -
this is great. Doctors in Florida, California, and other places all
perform this procedure.

i am thinking about RNY and I am wondering why it did not stay
permanent? They say it is at the groups and stuff. Does the pouch
strech?

Since you are going to check out various options, check out the duodenal
switch procedure. Longer lasting weight loss, more normal eating, no chance
of regain, a better lifestyle. Check duodenal switch.com and see for
yourself.,
