Anyone post op that started with a BMI of 70+
I am just courious to see what the weight loss has been for someone that had a BMI of 70 or higher (400-500 LBS) pre op. Can you please tell me how far post op you are and how much you've lost? Anyone 3 or more years out? Thanks SO SO much! — Blonde_Sanchez (posted on July 19, 2007)

DEAR LAURA,
THANK YOU GRACIOUSLY FOR YOUR QUESTION. I BEGAN MY
JOURNEY AT 466LBS PREOP AN STARTED DIETING ON 04/02/2007 BECAUSE MY SURGEON
TOLD ME THAT THE HOSPITAL HE PERFORMED THE SURGERY MANDATED THAT
ANYONE HAVING WEIGHT LOSS SURGERY IN THEIR HOSPITAL
HAD TO WEIGH AT LEAST 400LBS OR LESS. I LOST 72LBS
AND WEIGHED 394LBS ON MY SURGERY DATE OF 07/11/2007,
I AM ONLY 8 DAYS POSTOP SO I DON'T KNOW HOW MUCH I
WEIGH YET UNTIL I GO SEE MY DOCTOR NEXT WEEL, BUT I BELIEVE I WILL CONTINUE
TO DROP THOSE POUNDS AS I AM
VERY HIGHLY MOTIVATED. I WISH YOU EVERY BLESSING YOURSELF ON YOUR OWN
JOURNEY AND HOPE YOU HAVE A BLESSED DAY!!!

Hi Laura! I had my first consultation at 401 pounds. I am 5'3". My BMI
was very close to 70. I had a myriad of health problems, and could barely
walk or even breathe without extreme pain and effort. I struggled before
surgery to lose 38 pounds ( a battle all the way) to make surgery easier.
Long story short and two years later, I weigh 150 pounds. If I can be of
any help, or just lend an ear, please feel free to write. I had so many
questions initially, and I am sure you must also. Warm smiles, Pam

I was 478 when I got my surgery date. I was down 440ish when I had surgery.
I am almost 2 months post op as of this coming Monday and I am down to
356lbs. I know that only gives you the short term look though. If you have
any questions or need support anything, please feel free to write me!

Because I was tall (and never tucked my size 7x shirts into my size 70
pants), I thought that no one really noticed that I weighed over 510
pounds. But, at the time of my laparoscopic RNY on Oct. 9, 2002, I had a
BMI of over 61. I lost no weight before surgery (if I could have done
that, I wouldn't have needed weight loss surgery in the first place), but
dropped over 90 pounds my first month and 250 pounds by my 11th month. I
have been able to maintain about a 300 pound loss for a few years now.

I am 5'10", and at surgery date was 509 lbs, and had a BMI of 70.
something. I am just a little over 3 months out, and have lost 66.5
pounds, although now I know it is more. I found out to exercise every
night will stop the weight loss, and you will just lose inches and add the
needed muscle to kick your metabolism into high gear. Now I just work out
3 times a week and do my tae bo and have lost more weight. I need to find
a scale here in town that I can weigh on until I drop to the 400 lb mark
that most clinic scales go to....I know I WILL get there!

I'm approaching two years out from surgery and I have lost 140. I've not
eaten well the last few months so I've stayed stagnant. I have about 70
more to lose then plastics. I am 4'10 and was 360 preop, which is a BMI of
75.

Hi there! I had surgery in March 2000. I am 5'5" and my starting
weight was 460. By my one year mark I had lost 228 pounds. I lost down to
a low of 175 but rebounded to about 200 pounds. I struggle to keep my
weight under control but know that I will never be close to where I was
before. Good luck to you!

Congrats all you fellow losers, I really mean that with nothing but
admiration and amazement! I started out at 5'7" and 350lbs. I am
around 150lbs now 20 mos later. I will probally lose a bit more when I
have my lift and tummy tuck. I have that preapproved and am looking to that
this fall. Best of health and luck to you all.
