Question:
I had the surgery 6 weeks ago and my first two weeks I lost 23lbs and then my months

out I only lost 3lbs for a total of 26lbs. I don't know what I'm doing wrong, I thought I would have lost more than that. I walk every morning and go to the gym sometimes. I eat my chicken, fish, turkey, vegetables, fruit, propel water tea.    — acquinetta (posted on June 30, 2007)

thats normal your body is trying to catch up with such a fast loss. while your now losing pounds slow your measurements are no doubt dropping fast. take your neck measurement, check with yoiur surgeons office for the start number. yourdoing great, enjoy the ride.

Yes, the other poster is correct. You are gaining muscle mass too don't forget that--however remember that muscle does NOT weight more than fat, just takes up less room. So you are probably seeing a higher inch loss rather than weight loss. That is what happened to me. This is good, because we are SUPPOSED to be gaining muscles so our bodies don't take away from them. We will need those muscles later on to help more easily lose our weight. Hang in there! God Bless!

Every one's initial weight loss is different. It all depends on how long your surgeon keeps you on liquids, how much moving around you are doing, and how much of your loss is inches instead of pounds. You are doing well by exercising daily. Do yourself a favor and don't jump on the scales all the time, instead weigh yourself once every few weeks. As long as you are doing what you are supposed to, you will be pleasantly suprised at each weigh in and the drop from each time will keep you enthusiastic about this. Remember that if you seem like you plateau you might notice that you are losing inches and gaining muscle.

Hi Acquinetta, what a pretty name. Wow, 26 pounds, that is awesome! Do you know any other time inyour life that you lost 26 pounds in 6 weeks? I don't! That is amazing. The body has to adjust to this weight loss thing, it is not only not used to losing weight for ever, but it fights against it. Stick with the protein, water and the exercise program you are on. So many people give up on the exercise, but it will help you go a long way in losing weight. Losing weight has always been about diet and exercise, so keep it up, the tool you have will work for you, just stick with it. I lost very consistently when I had wls, but my friend who also had wls lost like you did, it took her longer, but we both sport a size 4-6. Just keep up the pace. The only thing I think you should think about is veggies at just 6 weeks out, be careful there, and if you are drinking caffine in your tea, change teas. Caffine will mess with your hunger level, and you will have head hunger soon enough, you don't need caffine helping you along there. Keep up the good work, and congratulations on your weight loss. Put 26 pounds of butter or sugar on your bed, then kiss it good bye! Celebrate your success, don't worry about how long it takes to get there. Take care. Patricia P.

Sometimes after a fast weight loss, your body goes into a hiberation mode, in order to keep what you have. So you have to fool the body, usually by increasing your exercise, or by increasing your calories. I would call your nutritionist and get some answers on how to change it up.
