I am 14 years post op and the first time I had to have a EGD was this year,
then the next week another. I was told by the doctor it could take several
times sometimes they try real hard not to over stretch my opening to my
pouch it depends on what is block, my recommendation to you is get the
Doctor of record and the Gastroenterolgist in the same room for a
conference if you don't know how what ever hospital she is in ask for the
advocate or the nursing superviser and have them arrange it. Ask the same
questions to them that you put here, if they put too much mumbo jumbo out
there for you to understand tell them to break it down so a non medical
person can understand. Hopefully it can be taken care of this way if it is
adhesions or twisted bowel it may require surgery have they done a barium
swallow to make sure it is not complete blockage or a obstructed bowel? It
gets serious if it stays that way too long the bowel dies, get the doctor
to answer your questions be professional but firm that you want answers. no
threats ..just tell them you need to understand what is going on.

I had pretty much the same problem, but what mine ended up being was my
intestine was telescoping back up into my pouch. I had pain and vomiting
and was eating pretty much only liquids for the last 3 weeks then the
doctor did an EGD and found multiple ulcers and my stoma had been severly
stretched due to the intestine coming back up. My surgery on 5/22/07 was
kinda like a revision due to the fact that he had to cut away the damaged
portion of the intestine and all the ulcers in the pouch. Read my story on
my profile if you want more information on what I had experienced.

Hi Rich, thanks for your question. I am really sorry that you wife has
been through so much. It is such a joy to enjoy the weight loss, but
sometimes complications can arise. You don't say who is doing the
endoscopy, but I can't help but wonder if she has an obstructed bowel. It
sounds like, from what you say, that she has a "kink" in her
intestines. Scar tissue can cause this, and clamp off the intestine to
make an obstruction in the bowel. I am only 3 1/2 years out, and my bowel
began to obstruct last March. I had to have surgery for it. It was a
painful recovery because scar tissue had adheared to both of my stomachs
and one intestine was beginning to close. I was not passing gas very well,
and they put me on milk of mag to keep my stools loose until I could get
into surgery. Fortunately they caught mine early enough that it was not an
emergency. I also have a gastric ulcer, it seems to be my friend, but I
will tell you this, after taking protonix for over 2 years for this ulcer,
when they removed all that scar tissue, and I healed up, I having taking my
protonix probably 6 times since March, compared to daily prior to surgery.
I think my ulcer is finally on the mend, and again, scar tissue was the
culprit. I think you need to see her wls surgeon (if you have not), and
they should visit this issue. I wish you well. Fight for your wife, if
this is her original surgeon, and they have not considered an obstructed
bowel, I would be concerned that perhaps you need a 2nd opinion. Research
her symptoms on line, and fight for your wife. She needs you more now than
ever. Take care. Patricia P.
