I had surgery on 5/15/07 and i started my vitamins as soon as i got home
from the hospital. I am taking Centrum Chewables multivitamin/multimineral.
You can also take Flinstones Complete, as long as they are chewable. I take
them 2x a day.

You definitely need to start taking your vitamins ASAP. I couldn't take the
usual vitamins recommended till I called the nurse. I asked about the
Flintstone vitamins. She said I can take them, but to take 2 of them.

Hi Loredana, and thanks for writing. I can't imagine that your surgeon and
their staff didn't instruct you in this area. You absolutely need to be on
vitamins and calcium right away. Many wls patients right out of the
surgery begin with any chewable vitamin, having one in the morning and one
at night. We were told to use the chewable calcium chews that you can find
at walmart or gnc. Just keep in mind that your body can only absorb so
much calcium at a time. I take my calcium chews one at a time, and an hour
apart so that my body has time to absorb them. Sometimes I lose track of
the time, as we are all busy, but for me, I keep my vitamins and calcium in
my pocket of my pants, and then when I put my hand in my pocket, I remember
them and take one. If you take both of your chews at once, you risk losing
absorption. Please start right away, and also chew out your doctor for not
being on top of this very important health issue. Take care, Patricia P.

this can only be answered by your surgeon and/or nutritionist -- and right
away!! i can't believe that you had surgery and left the hospital without
them telling you what to take post-op -- you should need a multi-vitamin,
B12, B1, iron, folic acid and calcium citrate -- all of these can be cut up
or crushed -- there are some that you can not take together because they
won't be effective -- talk to your surgeons office

I started on vitamins one week post op. I know all the nutritionists
recommend Flintstones and Centrum but I never took them. I researched and
take Tropical Oasis liquid multivitamins and a chewable multi from Vitamin
World thats a pineapple flavor as well as the Viactiv multis....I also take
B12 sublingually 2x a week, calcium citrate 1200 mgs., and iron (vitron-C
is a good one). Please be careful with vitamins and take a good quality
brands...look at the labels, they are NOT all the same. The liquid
vitamins absorb better.

Hi, Adult Centrum have a chewable formula; I buy them at walmart. You
need to take them twice daily my NUT and Dr say. I also take chewable
calcium (chocolate); but sugar free I get at walmart. Without vitamins we
can get into real trouble. I have negected mine lately and I sure can tell;
no real energy and my hair falling out. Gotta get back to the program. They
don't tell us these things just because; they tell us because it is
important & nessasary! Get going please, take care of yourself no one
can do it for you! Hugs, Judy R

I take the Bariatric Advantage chewable multi-vitamin (one twice a day). I
also take the Bariatric Advantage chewable iron at night before going to
bed. You can purchase them from www.bariatricadvantage.com.

Well, for a multi, I was taking Centrum Silver but couldn't afford it. So,
my surgeon prescribed Prenatals & was covered. I'm also prescribed
Calcium 2x/day & monthly B12 injections. What you have to take depends
on the surgeon & your own bodily needs. I know I was taking a liquid
vitamin as soon as I was home. Just ask your surgeon. That's ALWAYS best.
Good Luck!

I hope you didn't give your doctor very good reviews on this website,
because I'm just going to be honest here, but that is crap that they didn't
instruct you on this already! Is he is in it just to make money, or to have
patient successes? Seriously! My goodness, in Minnesota that is one of the
major things they discuss in the information sessions - no matter which
hospital or program you're going to.

I take OptiSource, four chewable tablets/day as recommended by my surgeon.
I bought them at Walgreen's. I actually like how they taste and they're
specifically formulated for the post-Bariatric surgery patient.
