Question:
Do anyone have any good exercising tips?
Being in college and working part-time I find it hard finding time to workout. — glennk (posted on October 21, 2006)

Does your college have a gym? When I was enrolled at a physical campus (I
take my classes online now) being a student meant I had access to the gym
so since I was already on campus I used it when I could. I'd also walk
from class-to-class instead of taking my car.
Working part-time do you get a break at work? Could you use that break to
take a walk?
Do you have 10-15 mins extra in the morning or at night for a quick bike
ride or walk through your neighborhood or even turning on some music in
your house and dancing like a fool? :)
Every little bit helps.
Take care and good luck!

How about videos/DVDs? You can do them at home on your own schedule. Walk
Away the Pounds with Leslie Sansone is a good choice. It is easy to do and
she has 1, 2 & 3 mile versions. Each of these has different intensities
on them. They are easy, 3 basic steps and if you can walk you can do them.
You can get them on line at her web site or many of the major sports stores
carry them. Try Dick's Sporting Goods (formerly Galyans), Sports Authority
if you have them by you in Detroit.

I also forgot to add - try posting your question on the Exercise and
Fitness forum on this site.

Sometimes it is hard to make the time to exercise which I completely
understand. I work full-time, am a graduate student, and have a family to
take care of. . .so here are a few suggestions. If you walk on campus,
make sure you park your vehicle further away. . .it is amazing how a few
extra steps make a difference. If you have to go to other floors in a
building - take the stairs - while they may seem difficult when you first
start, they will get easier and you will look forward to the exercise. If
you have a treadmill at home, read your homework assignments while you
walk. You can do it. . . you are doing great so far and just adding a
little bit of exercise to your routine will help.

Get up a half hour earlier and go to the basement and workout by doing some
excercises.
Buying used excercise equipment is affordable through garage sales or
through second hand stores and pawn shops.
Getting up a half hour earlier and do it will also give you more energy
throughout the day later on as you get used to doing them.

When I was going to college, I would ride my bike to school 3-4 days a week
(15 miles each way). I also worked in the exercise classes into my
curriculum. I took swimming one quarter, weight training another, etc.
Since I didn't want to screw up my 4.0 gpa, I worked really hard to
maintain an A in those classes as well. The reward? Maintained my gpa,
toned and lost weight. Hope this helps....... Kari

I understand -- working full-time and college full-time its hard to find
the time. Most mornings I'm up at 7 AM in order to get some homework done
before 10AM -- at which time I start preparing for work. When I work out
its in the morning. Sometimes I get into a zone of working out for about
30 mintues on the bike and return to the apartment and do what I can do
prior to going to work. Its a hard one to deal with. We have a gym at
work, however, only 30 minutes for lunch-- rush, rush, rush and that's what
it feels like. I don't like rushing.

Water aroebics are great. They are easy on the body with great results.
Check your local gym to see if they offer. Also a local hotel here offers
classes. May ask bigger hotel in your area if they do or know some hotel
that does.

This may sound absolutely crazy, but I think training for an endurance
athletic event, is a great way to get some exercise in. For example if you
a train for a triathlon, you are getting three types of exercise in to your
weekly routine and contrary to popular belief triathlons are not all
expeditions into hell. A number of them are very short in distace. Quite
a few of them are very accessible for the "real world"
population. But I think the best part of the triathlon / marathon etc
training is that it gets you out of the whole, My butt isnt getting any
smaller viscious cycle. It focuses your mind on celebrating how amazing
your body is that it carry you through these events. It totally works!
Good Luck!
