Question:
Has anyone given birth after bypass surgery?

I was wondering if anyone has given child birth after having gastric bypass surgery. I don't know if it is possible after surgery or not. I would have to have a c-section if I were to get pregnant.    — missyheffelfinger (posted on September 21, 2006)

I had twins after gastric bypass surgery. But I have always had C-sections anyway. If it has been a while since your surgery, and your doctor feels comfortable about it I don't see why you could not have a baby naturally. Good luck!

Hello Missy, I just gave birth to a healthy and beautiful little girl two months ago and I am 20 months post-op from having a Lap RNY. I gave birth to my daughter naturally. I have a picture slide show of her on my profile. I wish you the best. Tiffany

Hi Missy, I just gave birth to baby #4 a month ago. She is beautiful and healthy and believe it or not smaller than my others. I was 334 with my first 3 and pre pregnancy 163 with this one. I was healthier and VERY active and she was smaller than the rest. The only problem with that is that she had a lot of room to continue flipping around and at 8cm she flipped to feet first and I ended up with a C-section. It was nice though because they were able to use my surgical inscion so that if I wanted more children I could have them naturally. I am 2 years post op and feel great! Good luck to you on your journey, Sonja Lima Open RNY 9/9/04 - 334/287/163

My sister just had a baby and she is 1 year out. She had my nephew naturally. There is always a chance you will might have to have a c-section. Even if you didn't have the bypass. My nephew was full term and healthy. My prayer are with you.

Lots of us have! As a matter of fact, the surgery can make you even more fertile, although it's advised to wait 1-2 years after surgery, or until your weight has stabilized, to do so. I had a healthy 8 pound baby boy about 2 years post-op! :) There's a whole post-pregnancy forum on this site where you can learn more. Click above, under "forums" to go there.
