I am two months post-op and I am wondering if honey can be incorporated into my diet? — JillmHanson (posted on May 7, 2006)

I havent tried honey at all, but imho, I wouldnt. There is SOOOO much sugar
for just 1/2 tsp, it really isnt worth it. Its an individual choice tho.

you should contact your dietican. This is what they are there for. Most
of us can only give you our opinions, but these types of medical ones
should go to your doc's., By the way, honey is loaded with sugar and your
pouch might not like it

Honey is sugar and sugar is the one food that will fatten us up again, even
if taken in moderation. I LOVE honey, too, but there is a sugar free honey
(and s/f powdered sugar) at www.steelsgourmet.com . The honey is the
correct flavor and texture, even for me.

HI.. I love honey myself. I am pre-op, but I have recently seen my
dietician. She suggested agave nectar. It is from cactus. It is sweeter
than honey, so not as much is used. It comes in light, which is good for
coffees and teas. (It also comes flavored.) It comes in dark, which is
heavier, like a syrup. It's used for pancakes/waffles. It can be found on
line. But always ask an expert like your nutritionist/dietition.

There is a sugar free honey that you can buy from Target and some Walmarts
carry it. But, beware just because it is SF it does not mean that it is
calorie free. It is only 50% less in the calorie department. With being
only 2 months PO I would stay away from it even if you do not dump. Now is
the time to be changing your life style and getting rid of some of these
foods from your life. It doesn't meant that you will need to be rid of them
completely, I just think that it is a little too early for you to have it.
But like others have said contact your NUT or dietician for the answer.
