There are several types and they all have different success rates. There
is no way to determine how much you will lose. The most common is Lap band,
Roux-en-Y, Mini Gastric Bypass (http://clos.net) Duodenal Switch. All have
their positives and negatives. Do some googling and read up on these. The
more you know the better choice you will make for yourself.

they are all tools that have to be worked--you will lose as much as you put
into it, I think. keep researching--and read the boards for all the
surgeries to get a feel of what its like for individual people.
good luck!

You can also learn alot at a bariatric education seminar. We provide free
seminars for interested patients three times per month in our Smithtown
office. You will hear about all the options, be able to ask questions, and
interact with patients who have had the surgery.

Marjorie,
Check out http://www.dssurgery.com/generalinformation/comparison.php - it
has a good chart to study. Be sure to read lots of clinical data!
www.pubmed.gov is a great web site for that!
Best of luck to you!

Under forums on this board, you can click on different weight loss
surgeries. Please read the descriptions of each surgery. Also, visit the
different boards and read some of the successes and problems people are
having with each type of surgery. As with everything, some people LOVE
their wls and others HATE their wls. You have to determine what you can
live with. How much you lose varies from person to person no matter which
surgery you choose.
Best wishes!
