It has a high failure rate. Lots of members here have had revisions from
VBG to another surgery. I am one of them, and revised to RNY. Good luck.

Silastic ring vertical gastroplasty is basically the VBG procedure
utilizing a silastic ring, instead of a mesh band at the bottom of the
stomach pouch. There is an egroups (now yahoogroups) list for vbg
patients. Go to www.yahoogroups.com and sign up for the VBG list. There
are several memebers on the list that had the SRVG. Many doctors use the
silastic ring, even though they still refer to the procedure as VBG.
Surgery procedure choice is a difficult decision. Everyone has their
opinion about which surgery is "right" and which ones are
"not". But the bottom line is that each procedure has pros and
cons. There is no PERFECT procedure. For every "horror story"
about one procedure, you can find another such story about another
procedure. None of them work all the time for every person. Good luck in
your research.
