Two days post-op, at the time of discharge, I was instructed that I could
resume all my previous medications. The only restriction was on the
anti-inflammatory drug that I had been on for joint pain. I could not take
an anti-inflammatory for 6 weeks, and then had to change to one that
contained a specific ingredient to protect the lining of my stomach against
irritation or ulcers, especially at the staple line. Any cold medication that contains aspirin or
ibuprofen would be off-limits for those reasons. I was instructed that
Tylenol (acetominophen - regular or extra strength) was the only medication
that I could take for fever or mild discomfort from now on. Good luck!

Please be sure and ask your doctor. My doctor says no asprin products.
Hope you get to feeling better!

I wouldn't use Thera-Flu I believe that contains asprin or ibuprofin, I'm
not sure which, but I know that post op you are to avoid asprin or
ibuprofin. Try Tylenol Cold
Medicine for your nasal congestion. Or if you need to you could probably
try Sudafed for the congestion, those pills are really tiny. I would call
your surgeon to make sure that these medications will be all right for you
to take post op. If all else fails, go to your PCP and they should be able
to put you on something prescription. I am a firm believer in Claritin D,
I love that stuff. For me it helps during allergy season and for any kind
of congestion I get from a cold.
Good Luck...
