Question:
10 DAYS POST OP - ATE CHICKEN & RICE NO PAIN IS THIS NORMAL?
I am only 10 days post op from lap band surgery. Tuesday I ate pudding and it hurt so badly and scared me. I met with my doctor yesterday who said that was a good thing because I already had restriction and wouldn't need a fill yet. I have been doing well on liquids and no "food" since April 26th. Tonight I was making stir fry for my family and was just so hungry for a taste. I took a bite (normal not pureed) and it didn't hurt so I took 3 more bites and still no pain. I am full now but could I have already stretched the pouch? I just assumed the restriction I already had would make it hurt or be hard to get the chicken down but it was easy. I am worried something may not be done correctly. I should still be on liquids and slowly start adding pureed food in the next couple of weeks. Why didn't I have problems with the chicken/stir fry? Any ideas or advice? Thank you! This website is such a great thing for WLS patients. — suegee936 (posted on May 13, 2011)

was the pudding sugar free or regular? your not ready for pudding yet. as
for the chicken it something that works for you just make sure it is moist
and just take slow and chew chew chew it not stretched out you have a lot
of learning to do on what you can and can't eat

The day you ate the pudding you were probably still very swollen from
surgery. The day you sampled the chicken & rice, you were probably
less swollen.
The band is not so much about restriction as it is to dim the appetite. As
you recover and the swelling continues to go down, don't be surprised if
your hunger starts to return even more.
Try as hard as you can to stay on your post-op diet plan. It is for a
reason, to allow the stomach to rest and the band to seat well in place.
Try not to advance your diet without permission.

I had gastric by-pass. But, I have been on here a long time. You might need
to graze until you are used to this tiny new tummy of yours. I would
suggest low sugar creamed foods even if you can only take a bite here and
there. I wouldn't start eating the wrong foods this early on. You have to
change the way you eat. Starchy, sugary foods made you overweight and lead
you to surgery, they must be eliminated from you diet forever. You probably
didn't stretch your pouch, but take care of it, so you don't. Make sure you
are getting plenty of fluids. You might also try a high protein low sugar
shake. I like Atkins, or Unjury Chocolate. I've seen so many banders
sabotage their surgery by continuing to eat the wrong foods, I want to see
you be a success! Good luck to ya! And welcome to the losers bench! I wish
you all the success in your journey!

I too experimented a little bit and thought that the things I tried should
not have been going down/through so easily. I was correct. However, the
stomach was in a kind of "shock" and wasn't able to fight back so
to speak. Be good to your tummy and follow the instructions. There will
always be another stir fry. (or put your bite in the freezer and save it
for later when you are in your regular food stage). The baby steps after
surgery are for good reason. :-)
