Question:
has anyone had vomiting 3 weeks after surgery just from some cottage cheese

had my surgery on July 21. my protein shake period of 2 weeks went very well. The moment that I added the mushy or pureed foods I started to vomit about a half hour after eating. I take a full 30 minutes to eat and chew very well. I then wait a half hour before I drink anything. within a half hour I start to get stomach pain and then vomit. has anyone had this reaction? tomorrow I will start total protein drinks again.    — midnight123 (posted on August 14, 2010)

Sounds like your stomach is not healed quite yet. I'm 3 months out and can still end up vomiting over some things. I'm still doing 2 shakes a day and experimenting with foods. Sometimes my vitamins make me vomit as well. It just takes time and no two people progress at the same rate. Always go back to your shakes and try again later - maybe in another week.

Hi and congrats! yes you can get sick at any time from any food. Something can be tolerated then bam not...so do not be surprised. I tolerated things then they turned on me months later. And vice versa. try something then if it makes u sick, wait a few weeks and try it again. try waiting a full hour before drinking. My clinic recommends it any way...my daughter was like u in that she would get sick after she started drinking again...so she waited. also your dr should be able to give you a pill ..if its too bad.Contact them if it continues as you may have developed a stricture. best of luck to you! hugs n God Bless, kim

Congrats, Dee and welcome to the WLS way of life. Unfortunately as the others posters have also alluded too I wish I could offer you something you wanted to hear! Vomiting is something that will occasionally come and go and may occur even on a food you may have previously tolerated. This, I assume, is just one of the pitfalls to being thin again. I say that sarcastically only because at <8 mos. postop myself I can honestly tell you I would not have it any other way. There are some who do not feel the pros and cons of the "easy way out" (as I hear a lot of people tell me) are worth what we go through, but now that I have lost 101# in 33 weeks there is no way I am headed back to the chunky side of the tracks. Best of luck to you, Dee and keep trying. Things DO get better and you will be glad you did this in no time! Keep marching forward :-)

You should try to stay on liquids as long as possible to heal your pouch. It is still swollen, tender and not quite ready for the mushy food phase. Perhaps you ate to fast or maybe even to much. Those two would cause you to vomit. You stomach may not be ready for even mushy foods. I was on liquids for about 1.5 months to heal properly. Be careful about the food phase, as throwing up can cause your internal staples to come loose and cause problems. That is why you should stay on liquids. Sip, Sip, Sip...away.

Well, when I was first out, I only drank my shakes primarily due to vomiting. I am a year out and I still do not tolerate a lot of protein. Did you try Greek yogurt, it is delish? Eggs were not my friend at all and still is not. When I was three weeks out cottege cheese was bad too. It is a very rough road, but it does get better. Good luck!
