Question:
What kind of cold medicine is safe for Gastric Bypass patients?
I'm 2 months out. I'm sick for the first time since surgery. What kind of cold medicine is alright for me to take? I have all the awful symptoms, sore throat, cough, stuffy head, headache. If anyone knows of a specific brand, please let me know! Thanks! — SarahMascara (posted on March 22, 2010)

I was told in a support meeting last week, that as long as it didn't
contain aspirin or ibprofen (sp), I could take it for my cold...which was
horrible I might add. I used that new Theraflu Warming stuff, and it didn't
make me sick. However some of the people in my support group said that gel
caps made them violently sick.

I took Dayquil/Nyquil when I developed a cold BUT I only took a teaspoon
rather than the cup they provide. It took care of my syptoms just as good
as if I had taken the whole dose. Hope this helps.

My surgeon prefers his patients use "Tylenol Cold" because it is
NOT to contain aspirin or "salicylates".

a call to your clinic should really be in order. They should be able to
tell you what is best. Best of luck!

I would worry about Nyquil because of all the alcohol.

It was recommended to me to use Tylenol Extra Strength Adult Rapid Blast
Liquid. . . it is quicker acting. . . the doc did say I could switch to
tablets after the first year as long as I cut them up.
