Didn't your doctor give you specific instructions about what you're supposed to be eating, how much protein and water intake you need daily, and what vitamins to be taking? Nutrition is serious stuff for us, affecting our health both in the short term and even more so in the long run if we don't follow instructions. It's not about what you want to eat or drink now; it's about what your body needs. I was instructed to take a chewable multivitamin beginning the day I left the hospital. So call your doctor's office and tell them you don't recall what you're supposed to be doing. If you're not getting in the required protein each day, you will probably have much greater problem hair loss.

Shame on your Dr for not telling you what you should be eating and the vitamins you are supposed to be taking. You are supposed to have 60 grams of protein and 64 oz of water a day. You should be having protein shakes and if you are eating any protein it should be pureed. Please call your Dr and ask him for a diet regime, it is imperative. We must be our own advocates, however, my Dr is the best and his team as well. I was not allowed any carbs until I lost 75% of my weight. If you do not get in all your protein and water in, you will end up in the hospital with dehyration and other complications. I am not trying to scare you but please take care of yourself. I do not want to tell you what vitamins you should be on, but you MUST call the Dr. and ask, it is so important that you are on vitamins. I just had my six months checkup and the NUT and the Dr were pleased as punch with my bloodwork, it was perfect. I follow his directions to a tee. I have lost 103 lbs, it is a glorious world, hard work but glorious. Make it glorious for you too, empower yourself.

Congrats on the surgery...now my advice...talk with your clinic...My clinic says you have to eat 3 meals a day...3 meals lasting no less than 20 minutes and no longer than 30. Eating small bites ,...chewing atleast 20 times and waiting 5 minutes between bites. At this early stage you should be eating no more than 2 ounces, but 1 ounce is more normal. Get yourself a medicine cup..they are about an ounce. eat soft foods such as scrambled eggs, cottage cheese, yogurt, etc..foods high in protein and low in carbs. No sugar!! and try for low fat. You shouldn't be hungry for a several months. Eating at this point is a nuisance, but you have to do it. You have to introduce foods slowly. eat only 1 thing per meal so you know how it affects you. You are like a newborn...you can have bad reactions to foods. Do make sure you get the fluids in. And try a chewable multi vitamin..we were told to take flinstomes early out because they are milder on your body. Take a 2 a day...1 in the am 1 in the pm. and calcium. Other than that its pretty much individualized. So be sure to get your labs done evry 3 months. You need to get up and walking. Moving will bring on more energy and help with weight loss and its imperitive to maintaining loss later on. You also dont want to get blood clots..so keep moving! You have to talk to your clinicians tho. They should have given you an entire diet for the three stages post op, and it tells you when to start vitamins, usually 2 weeks out, and protein drinks...usually as soon as you get home. etc. Just remember to eat 3 times a day and keep the meals as small as you can, for as long as you can, but they have to be atleast 1 ounce. You will go into starvation mode and not lose anything. And I did get dehydrated and didn't lose while I was. It took me 3 weeks to re hydrate myslef drinking 80-100 ounces a day! So don't let that happen. If you have no tears when you yawn, or little saliva, you may be dehydrating.Sip sip sip!! Good luck with it all. Have a great day! hugs n God Bless, Kim

You should be taking the liquid forms of the vitamins already. You need a good multivitamin you can chew, liquid calcium, Iron to take at a different time than calcium. Sub-lingual B-12 and perhaps the shots if your blood level show the need, and lots of protein, which you aren't getting right now. Try to shop for the highest protein shakes you can find, or get unjury online and make your own. You have to have protein to heal and rebuild muscle tissue, and your energy depends on the B-12 and protein. You need at least 100 grams of protein per day and 64 ounces of water and non caffeinated fluids per day. It is normal not to have an appetite, that is why you had the surgery, and that's a honeymoon period, so take advantage of it. The hunger will return with a vengeance, and you will have to remind yourself that you still have a limited capacity and that it IS possible to undo it all and be fat again, if you abuse it. DON'T DO IT!. Hang in there, good luck with your journey, and keep asking questions if you have them. We are here to help.

I'm 6 weeks out and just now starting to eat a little. I dont have an appetite and my Dr said as long as i'm getting the protein and water in, i'm fine. I mostly have applesauce or soup at lunchtime just to get some calories, but that's it. I find that if I try other stuff it just sits like a rock in my stomach (nutritionist said it might not be "wet" enough after I gave the example of blenderized Tuna).... You only have to eat when you are ready and i'm with what someone else posted.. no carbs... I'm trying small things just to "test the waters". As far as vitamins, I had to wait till my two week checkup because they retook my bloodwork and wanted to review it with me. I did great... off all meds and feeling so much better. With the pre op diet, and the 6 weeks, i'm 54 lbs lighter ! Good luck !
