Question:
I don't think this is going too good.
I had my surgery April 1st and I'm only down 33 lbs. Is that bad? — jtaormina (posted on June 18, 2009)

Julie,
Everyone is different. I don't think its bad. I was really upset that the
scale did not move for over 2 weeks but it did start again. The questions
everyone asked me were are you drinking 64oz of water and getting your
protein in? And make sure to exercise, I do alot of walking either outside
or on the treadmill and ride my stationary bike. It will move...trust
me...I was so upset and let it bother me....but it did move again....I had
my surgery 4/29/09 and am down 33 lbs so far.....Good Luck.....

You MUST give yourself a year sweetie! You are doing fine! It seems like
others are just melting at ridiculous rates but they aren't...Sure some
lose HUGE numbers the first month and they seem to have had some magic
surgery or something...But in the end most RNYers will lose about 100
lbs...Some who have more to lose will probably lose more than the 100...But
on average it still takes about a year! I started at 315 lbs and lost 150
lbs in 15 mos ...Then it just stopped on it's own! You are losing over a
half a pound a day on average...That's not bad at all! Give yourself a
year! It's always slower when you are counting down the lbs! You'll get
there! Just wait til you drop about 60 lbs total...then it's really like
magic! The smaller you get the more noticeable even a pound makes! That's
when you really see the melting! Til then it just seems slow...Good luck!

Have you ever lost 33 lbs in six weeks before? Yeah that's good!! You
will lose and plateau thru this whole thing. Don't let it get you down.
Just stick to the program! Good luck!

Just remember to drink your water and get your protein in. I felt I wasn't
loosing enough too. I had my surgery on March 31st and I am down 44lbs.
Just keep in the back of your mind that you don't want to loose too much
too fast, because this will help reduce sagging skin. Keep your chin up and
stay positive.

Your question should be "How much fat have I lost?" If you lose
more than 10-12 lbs a month, chances are it is muscle and water. And your
metabolism will change as well - eating less will cause it to slow down -
the protein and exercise will help it to increase. And you will have
plateaus from time to time as your body adjusts to this new way of life.
You are doing fantastic! Keep up the good work.

No that is not bad. I started slowly losing the weight. You are only at
11 weeks post op. At that point I had lost about what you lost give or
take a couple of lbs. I had my surgery on January 8, 2009, and am
currently at 23 weeks post op. So far I have lost a total of 84 lbs since
the surgery and 13 before the surgery....for a grand total of 97 lbs!! I
went from a size 24-26 down to a 12-14. You will get to your goal weight.
I have about 40-50 more to lose to get to my goal. GOOD LUCK and keep up
the good work!!! Just remember, you will hit plateaus, but then the weight
will start to come off again. Just drink your 64+ oz of fluid a day and
remember to eat your proteins!
