Question:
Why is it that I am having such a hard time with water?
I will be 3 months out (RNY) on the 9th, but am still having a very difficult time with water. I can eat with no problem, I can drink milk or orange juice (watered down) but I can not drink just water. I have tried it cold or warm even at room temperature and it is still difficult. I drink slow and small sips, but I still get this pain. When I force myself to dink it because I am worried that I will become dehydrated (I work out at the gym everyday) I end up feeling really sick. I wish I could just have water. Has anyone else had this problem? It is the only thing that hurts my stomach. — trinity P. (posted on May 1, 2009)

Water bothered me a lot too....I wasn't sure why...I hated the taste and
smell.(metallic or chemical)My sense of smell has heightened since surgery
as has my sense of taste for whatever odd reason...Water would give me a
mild but annoying belly ache ...Drinking it room temp was all I could do to
ease some of that...but it wasn't until I put a filter on my house and
bought a refridge with a water filter (now my water is double filtered) as
well that water finally went down okay...I drink a ton of water now! All
day I sip on it...I think it was actually the chemicals in my towns water!
I could be wrong...BUT even after 5 years, I cannot gulp water (but I can
drink fast) I cannot drink ice cold water without getting stomach spasms
and some brands of bottled water bother me tremendously...I cannot drink
Nestle water at all! Pure weirdness...You might try getting a Britta water
filter pitcher(or other brand) as they are not that expensive and better
for you anyway to drink filtered water, so it won't be a total waste. I
have a cabin out near the a salt water river out in the boonies...and my
tap water there is very soft from the salt...I cannot drink it at all or I
feel sick...I have to bring filtered water from home in large jugs. I'm
getting a pitcher for there too so I don't have to lug water 2 hours on the
weekends when I go there! My dog can't drink the cabin water either...I had
it tested and it passed the EPA regulations, but it still has minerals or
chemicals that I cannot handle personally...just high sodium! But I still
think it's chemicals that bother me...

Friend of mine had the same situation. SHe got her liquids in by chewing
ICE all the time...it worked. The filteration will help too!

Before my RNY I drank about a gallon of water a day. Now since my surgury,
can handle the water either until I started trying new flavors of crystal
lite. 0 sugar and only 5 calories. I get the singles to take with you
everywhere. I keep them at work too so now, since I finally found my
favorite flavor, I am drinking 3 bottles at 16.9 ozs each a day sometimes
4. The crystal lite lemonade and cran grapes are my favorites. There a
lot of flavors to choose from, but try it out, you will get a lot more
water intake with some flavor. GL
