I'm looking at getting the band but worried that it won't be
"enough" help for me to lose all the weight I want! Seems
everyone that loses a lot has the RNY.

I am immediately post bypass and therefore can only pass along what I have
read from long term bypass patients who have struggled with failure of
weight maintainence. The pouch rarely exceeds 10 ounces in its most
stretched so it is still 1/5th the size of a normal stomach. Obviously this
isn't much of a restriction compared to the 1/2 - 1 ounce you start with.
From what I have read there are two options before trying to go more
agressive, like banding. First is 5 day pouch test to try to re-establish
how to use whatever size your pouch is to your advangage; Second is the
ROSE procedure which is done by endoscope (no surgery, they go down your
throat) where they constrict the opening of your pouch thus making food
leave the pouch slower helping you feel satisfied with less food for
longer. I would try both before seeking actual pouch revision but I would
assume you can't be the only one having this trouble so there have to be
surgeons out there who have tried to help with it. These are just my
opinions and you must seek your own path. I wish you the best in dealing
with this problem. Kevin
