Question:
RNY v. Menopause
I am 50 & going through menopause, that is, the night sweats & irritability. Does it go away or calm down a little after having RNY? Can anyone share if this has happened to them? Or did it stay the same after RNY? — Ruth M. (posted on February 14, 2009)

I had LapBand, and mine has not improved. Granted, I had a complete
hysterectomy a few years ago, so I'm on HRT. I have heard, though, that my
HRT is supposed to work better the more weight I lose.

I had RNY on Jan. 5, '09. I NO LONGER sweat....!!!!! In fact I am cold a
lot of the time! What a sweet thing! Irritability....now that's another
subject. I think, from what I've read, that the moods tend to swing
because of the hormone fluctuations from losing weight so rapidly...maybe
I'm wrong? I do get moody....but not terribly. No one has kicked me out
of the house yet! I think you are gonna be a happy lady, as am I! Hope
this helps!

I am 53 and had surgery September 5, 2008. I started menopause about 2
years ago, with no period whatsoever for over a year. Although night
sweats improved, my period also started up again! I have had 3 period
since my surgery (including one that started 3 days prior to surgery!). Go
figure. It has now been 2 months without, and I am cold all the time,
although an occasional hot flash.
