I was told by our insurance company, who was updating my husband's policy
at the time, that I had to wait a year from my surgery to be added to the
policy. If you already have life insurance, it shouldn't be a problem.

I am a life insurance agent and yes, it is more difficult to get and more
expensive as well. However it's also more difficult and expensive to get
it when you are overweight, have sleep apnea, diabetes, high blood
pressure, heart disease, or ANY medical condition.

My husband recently tried to up my life insurance policy and when they
realized I had WLS, they wanted to charge me extra. They told me that in
order to give me the quoted price, I would have to be 5 years out with no
complications. Shortly after that, I became Iron anemic! But I imagine the
rate would have been really high if I still had diabetes, was 315lbs with a
GERD, Arthritis and high cholesterol to name a few things I no longer have!

I went through the same thing when after I had cancer at age 40. I had to
wait five years to increase my coverage on my life insurance but the
premiums were not out of line when I did get to increase it. I am 58 now
and have increased coverage on other time since then. After WLS you are so
much healthier. I'm not sure what the deal is. My insurance is with State
Farm.

YES!YES!YES! before i had my surgery i thought i had life insurance and
come to find out it was only accidental insurance so, i frantically searced
to try to get a policy before my surgery and it was impossible because my
surgery was pending. now that i am six months postop they don't want to
give it to you for so many months or years without complications. luckily,
i just changed status at work and can up my life insurance there, which is
better than nothing. good luck...Holly
