Question:
STRICTURE! Feeling SO LOW! Someone PLEASE help me!
5 weeks post-op, and a difficult recovery. At 1 week post-op, an incision opened (and draiiiiined, gross) -- have to wash and have my husband pack it twice a day until it's closed (probably 3-4 more weeks of that). It doesn't hurt anymore, and hubby is a saint, so I'm doing great on that one. And then, I was always just queasy and feeling bad, every day. FINALLY got an Upper GI last Thursday, and yep, I have a stricture -- went in Friday for the EGD procedure, and they tell me it's SO tight that I'll have to get 2-3 MORE EGDs, JUST to get it to a "normal" state. I know this is the pain and exhaustion and lack of proper nutrition talking, but I'm starting to regret having my RNY. I mean, is this gonna be my LIFE? Queasiness and struggling to get protein and the stricture re-closing up whenever it wants to (which they said was "possible" to happen for the REST of my life?). Yeah, I've lost 37 pounds, but I can't really say my health has "improved." I'm crying on my keyboard, I feel so discouraged. Can someone who's been there PLEASE help a girl in need? — crydecker (posted on March 3, 2008)

Aww sweetie...This didn't happen to me, but I have a friend it did happen
to and she was just like you...She regretted her RNY (At first) and she was
miserable and sick. Once the stricture was fixed...she was FINE! It's not a
fun thing to be going thru, I'm certain , but these complications do happen
to some people...Your number came up...But good thing is, they working on
fixing it. I'm sending my bestest wishes to you! Please don't feel so down
sweetie...It's a bump in your journey, but hopefully it will get better and
better. {{{{Hugs}}}

Keep your head up. This is only the beginning of a beautiful future.
Everything good in life has it's price. Bumps in the road bring character
anyway. It has only been 5 weeks since you have begun this journey, just
imagine when you are celebrating 5 years of your dream come true. Hold
tight mamasita, and thank God for the blessings along the way. Like your
husband!! Have a wonderful day and best of luck to you.

Oh! I am so sorry! Things will be better soon. 6 months from now you
will look and feel so good you will forget how you are feeling now. Take
care and hang in there!

Gosh, Crystal I am so sorry you're having a rough go of it in the
beginning. I hav'nt had my surgery yet, but two of my close friends had
your experience. After they had their stricture repaired, they have done
extremely well(and you will to). One is 2 years out and lost 110lbs and
keeping it off and the other is 18mths out and has lost 130lbs, had a full
body lift and is a model for WLS here in Texas. Please try not to be to
discouraged because "this to will pass". Let us know when you are
feeling better. I know you will be soon.
Best Wishes,
Y<><<

HI Crystal, I"m almost 5 weeks post op and I just had my stricture
widened today. It's not fun....but I agree with the others; this will
pass. In a month or two; you'll look back and thank God u did this
procedure. The stricture was not fun and I was pretty sick since Thursday
of last week; but I'm staying encouraged because there is no other way I
could have lost the weight that I alreadyhave. Stay encouraged
Crystal......things will get so much better for you.

Crystal I had a stricture at 3 wks and they fixed it at 4 weeks. I too had
a few weeks of WHAT HAVE I DONE but after the stricture was fixed it has
been smooth sailing. One EGD and my opening went from tic tac size to
normal. I had RNY on Sept 26th and to date I have lost 95 lbs. Best of
luck to you. Try not to get too discouraged...it gets better. I have been
there.

Hi Crystal, thanks for writing. I feel your pain. You are going through
quite a bit, but hang on tight, and hopefully this will all be part of the
past soon. Sometimes we have to struggle really hard to get what we want.
Even though I would not wish stricture on anyone, use this time to remember
how this struggle feels so that when times are good for you again, it will
keep you on track. Don't be discouraged, this is just a tough time, just a
bump in the road. Granted it is a big bump, but just a bump, and you can
get over it with diligence and effort. You are doing great to lose 37
pounds, and as you stay close to your doctors orders, you will be on top of
it soon. Just hand in there girl. I am so sorry for your struggle, but I
am cheering you on and believing that you can hang on and get to the other
side. You are probably more than half way there. Hang in there girl!

Hi Crystal, I'm sorry you're going throught phase. I just had that
procedure done little over a week ago. I had a hard time holding down most
of my foods since the ending of December 07. Kept on throwing up everyday
at least twice a day they ran several testes including the upper GI, but
really couldn't see anything wrong. So they ran more testes and sure
enough had to have my stricture open too. It's now the size of a green
pea. I'm doing so much better now and able to eat food athough only in
2oz's but that's fine w/me!!!
March 15th will make 5 months since my G/B procedure and not for once did I
ever regret having this done.
Hang in there girl, try not to be so discourage when you see your health
improve for the best and see your weight drop you will think differently.
Keep me posted, let me know how you're feeling. In the meantime you take
care of yourself. Best Wishes, Wans
