Question:
Ekg question
Did anyone else have to have a stress test after having their ekg. My primary care physician wants me to even though she thinks nothing is wrong. She said sometimes when you have bigger breasts it gives an inaccurate reading. Did this happen to any of you.. I am trying not to be worried — gabbyjane (posted on October 30, 2007)

yes, my doctor has all his patients have them. Just being heavy is hard on
your heart and going through surgery he wants to make sure there isn't any
problem going in. Don't panic, it is easy, not scarey and no big deal.
Good luck

Yes, my doctor ordered all sorts of tests to be done, I am in perfect
health but he ordered the tests as a precaution. This is major surgery so
better to be safe than sorry. My surgery is tomorrow, whoever reads
this...say a prayer for me, thanks.

Yes, I had to have 1 done and my Heart Doctor did an echogram too. He did
that because I had had 1 done and it show a problem and 1 year later I had
to have another 1 done and it showed nothing wrong. So he wanted to make
sure.

I also had to have both an echo cardiogram and stress test. And...even
tho' I have never had a sleep problem they are requiring a sleep test at
the hospital which I definitely do not want to do. Don't worry, I think
it's just prodocol. With all the people who are sue happy I think Dr.'s
want to be sure that they have taken all the proper precautions. God
bless.

Hi there about the ekg although i have never had one my son had problems
having an ekg because after he had open heart surgury not long afterwards
he had a massive build up fluid in his chest and it made it very hard for
then to get a good reading from the ekg they told him that it was a common
occurence when ladies have big breast it makes it hard to get the reading
because the contacts are to far from the heart.

Yes, I had to have this done. I not only had to have one stress test but
two and they both came back abnormal. I had a heart catherization to make
sure that there really wasnt any heart problems. It is better to have this
done and make sure that there isnt any problems than to go on and find out
later on down the road that there is problems with your heart.

My doctor requires a complete cardio work up routinely for all her pre-op
patients.

I had the exact same thing happen to me. I had an EKG and they recommended
a stress test; I had the nuclear (sp?) one where they inject you with
something that makes your heart "think" you've been exercising,
then they recommended the stress test where you actually exercise for 6
minutes on a treadmill. The good news is that my heart is perfect and I
have no signs of blockages or heart disease. Do not worry about it, I
think they always just want to make sure that everything is ok. Good Luck,
neither test is too bad.

Yes, I had the nuclear stress test where they inject dye into while you are
walking on the treadmill. I lasted 2minutes on the "dreadmill" .

Yes, me too. I had an echo of my heart done also. I think this is common
practice, although it does freak one out.

Hi Robin.
That just happened to me today!! concidence? my name is Robin too.... Hmmmm
maybe they just like to give chicks named Robin stress tests!! LOL!!
My EKG came back abnormal so they took me right in for a nuclear stress
test, they just got an IV going and injected me with an isotope then took
pictures of my heart, then they had me walk on a treadmill until I was
breathing hard and injected me again and took more pictures. It didn't hurt
at all and it took a little over an hour. Good news I was cleared for
surgery!! WAHHHOOO!! Nothing to worry about!! Better safe than sorry... do
as your Doc says and you'll be just fine.

EKG & Stress Test were required before my surgery, I think because I
was 200 lbs from goal weight. (Wt before=350). I was quite afraid of the
Stress Test because I thought I had to "run" to do it. Bit my lip
& went anyway, only to find out: they give you medication to raise your
heart rate, there was someone right there with me watching & doing the
test. I just laid there with the IV. It was fine.
8 months & 137 lbs down & I feel fantastic!!! Deep breath, let it
out slow & go for it!! It will soon be behind you & you will be one
step closer to being a better you!!!
God Bless & Good Luck.

I had to have both an echo cardiogram and stress test. They were a breeze,
but took over 2 hours, which I was unaware of. Since I have a really bad
knee, the reason for the surgery, I had a different kind of stress test. I
walked for a while, then the nurse gave me an injection, I walked exactly 4
minutes, then she stopped the med, & I walked 2 minutes more.

Yes, I also had a stress test and don't be worried---be thrilled that you
have an excellent and caring PCP! I love my doc and I know she always does
more than other docs to keep me healthy. Let your doc know how much you
appreciate their interest. pat
