Question:
Stomach gurgling
I am on my 7th week after surgery. No matter what I eat, my stomach makes all kinds of weird noises and will gurgle and gurgle for at least an hour. It's loud and it's embarrassing. Is this normal and how long will It do this? — Charleesmom (posted on June 19, 2007)

I am 3 1/2 years post op and mine STILL does it. Sounds like your own
little "fourth of July"..........LOL Yes it is embarrassing. Not
sure if Beano would take care of it or not. Good Luck!!

TOTALLY NORMAL....I was at support group (around 3 months out) and it was
talking to someone across the room apparently. Everyone laughed with me --
as they all had been there before. LOL. Some people experience it a long
time. Mine has seemed to subside a bit. Still some times I think it has
it's own mating call to someone in a different state.

Hi! At least yours gurgles. Mine ROARS! (lol) I am practically a year out
and it did it way more in the first couple of months following surgery, but
now it only happens a few times a month-thank goodness! I actually had a
child start crying while in line at a grocery store! I heard him say,
"Mommy, there is a monster hiding in here somewhere, I hear it
growling at me" Let me tell you! I just wanted to crawl under a rock
and die! Hang in there!

if your gastric bypass you are probably still on liquids or soft solids,
then that is what a grolwing belly sounds like it had been so long sinc eI
heard it (I never stopped eating long enough for it to growl) I was shocked
when it did, and now 14 years later mine still does it from time to time,
especially if I eat dairy, I have to have fat free milk or I get dumping,
more like the hypoglyicmic reaction more than anything.
Everyone's does that, but if you have pain or serious bloating or your
bowels are not moving enough or too much let the doctor know. Take care.

I too had the sounds of gurggling loud enough to be heard in a room full of
ppl. I found it was asking for water. It was almost like a little timer, 1
hour after I would eat it would sound like I had not ate for a few days. I
would have either water or 1/2 cup of a high protein drink and it was gone
Im 3 months post-op and it rarely does this any longer.

This is great, I am so happy you asked this question. I have the same
thing happen quite often. It is embarassing, but oh well i will deal with
that if that is the least of my problems. It is funny though because i
have asked my mom if she heard that and such. She thinks it is hilarious.
Good news to know it is normal and everyone does it.

Very normal. I'm a year out and mine still does it, although not as often
as it did in the beginning.

September I will be 4 years out from WLS and my stomach makes some of the
worst noises you can Imagine. I have learned to deal with it, aparently its
not going away. I notice it more when I first get up in the morning and
after I eat.

Hi Dana, thanks for writing. Gurgles and swishes have become a part of my
personality. Sometimes they are little and sometimes they are big. I had
a big gurgle one day, and my friend said "What is that?". I said
it was time for me to go to the bathroom, so I did, and I did. I don't
like the noises either, but they are a part of what I took on as a tool for
weight loss, so I accept them. Don't be embarrassed, it just happens. The
body is full of noises, and we think no one makes noises so it is
embarrassing when we do. Well, everyone makes noises, it is normal, and
don't worry about it. Let the gas pass (as quietly as possible), and the
gurgles fly, I am 3 1/2 years out and 120 pounds lighter, I can take it.
Take care. Patricia P.

Sorry to tell you we all have it to some degree. I am 5 months out and it
has subsided a bit. Here I am having my morning cup of cocoa to get in some
calcium and my body is having a conversation with me. Life is full of trade
offs. I did this for health and for me but when I think about your question
I just figure it is better than the laughs and conversations that went on
when I was 344 pounds. Frankly I don't let it bother me if my system gets a
little noisy in public. The people at my table know my situation and it
does not bother them one bit. Others in the room, who cares what they
think. If they got a chuckle that day. Good for them. Keep up your spirits.
Good Luck and God Bless, Norma

Man, you Bypass people have it so-o-o easy ..
Gurgles. Psssht. Try living with The Baboon (tm).
When I have something trying to go down, I get the Devil's hiccups. Think
of the worst hiccups you ever had, but with every hiccup comes an
uncontrollable shriek. A LOUD, completely uncontrollable shriek. I have
been accused, and rightfully so, of being an attention-seeker.
I am *so* glad I work at home.
