Question:
What is "Breathtek?"
Ok, my surgery date is approaching on June 7th and I am scheduled to have the pre-op testing done this Thursday, the 17th of May. When I called to pre-register, they did not tell what any of the testing would be but that I would receive paperwork in the mail. I did and one of the things that looks to take quite a bit of time is called the "Breathtek" test. Does anyone know what this is???? — Martina B. (posted on May 13, 2007)

Hi... without knowing exactly what it is, my educated guess would be that
it is a pulmonary function test. This would test your lung capacity, etc
at this time to get a baseline on what your respiratory status is. This
way, they know how good your lungs are working and would be valuable
information, not only for the surgeon, but especially for the
anesthesiologist. Especially since the RNY procedure can take upwards of 3
hours and you will be under general anesthesia and on a ventilator during
the surgery. Hope this helps and good luck on your upcoming surgery....

It has to do with determining if you have the H. Pylori virus in your
stomach, which is the major cause of ulcers. (Some brilliant fellow got a
Nobel prize for this discovery.) The good news is that, if you have H.
Pylori, you can take prescription medication to get rid of it.
