I agree with the mental change. You will have to go get psychological
evaluation.... don't stop there. You are/were self-medicating with food
.... find out why. The danger of not finding out why you, is there is
always the danger of finding something else to self medicate with .....
alcohol, drugs, shopping, whatever addiction or obsession that can replace
food as it is not going to be an viable option any more. I went to
counseling myself (My surg is 10/31) I learned alot about myself, why I
did what I did, was able to pull some uncomfortable truths from the past,
examine them, and then decide whether I wanted to integrate that experience
into my life now, or leave it in the past and close the door. There are
lots of success stories, but there are alot of people who just switched
addictions as well. The other thing to get in the habit of now is eating
3 meals a day, not drinking with meals, lots and lots of water, give up
soda now (you won't be able to do it after the surgery), give up the sweets
now (also can't do after the surgery - will make you sick) and start an
exercise routine - walking, swimming, water aerobics, etc.... no matter
what it is - get moving. It will rev up your metabolism now, so when you
have the surgery, you will lose weight faster. Good luck to you.........

That's wonderful that you have your date all set. Like the other woman who
replied I would say the same thing.....go & see a therapist prior to
your surgery so that he/she can discuss with you why you ate in the first
place. It is also good to see a therapist so that he/she can keep you on a
straight & narrow path once you have the surgery done. I had mine on
9/29/06 & my therapy has been an invaluable thing for me. My therapist
was with me all the way & she continues to keep me aware of the
pitfalls afterwards as well. I have one more thing to worry about though
as I am Bi-Polar so not only did I eat to keep myself away from things I'd
love to do but I also have the shop till you drop syndrome. She is the
only person who is in my court 100%. I truly believe you should get
counselling before & after you have this surgery. I too had RNY done
& laproscopiclly too & had aboslutely no problems with it. Good
Luck on your special day; try to stay calm because it will only help
afterwards & if you can get up & walk the halls in the hospital
even if it hurts some because that is the best thing you can do for
yourself!!! Phyllis

Congrats on your surgery date. I had my surgery also on 9/29/06 and I will
say PROTEIN PROTEIN PROTEIN. I decided that I might could get it all in
with food, tried it for a week and didn't lose one pound, got on a protein
that I could do and it just fell off the next weekend. Also you have to
tell yourself that this is a lifetime change. This is not a surgery to
help you eat less at McDonalds. You have to realize that this is what you
want and that you will feel so amazing. I have lost 45lbs already and I
feel so alive and have so much energy I can only imagine what I am going to
feel with the rest of the 66 lbs off. To me it feels so much better to
feel this way than to have McDonalds all the time. I haven't been to
therapy, I have cousins and other family members who have been through this
so they are my lifeline. Just be patient and follow everything the doctor
says. Pretty soon things will seem like second nature. I walked 2 hours
after surgery and they finally had to tell me to rest. I was ready to get
up and start my new life. I now feel as if I have been given a second
chance at being the real me. You will do fine and if you have any
questions we are all here for ya! Good luck!

Congradulations! I am 4 months post op.... My best advise is to have your
liquid diet prepared before you go into surgery...start trying out protein
drinks before so you know what you will like. Good luck... I was up and
running within a week...but buy two weeks you will feel great! Good
luck..

Congrats! You will be fine...I'm 4 months post op and feel great! My only
advice is to do what your surgeon asks! I did and I have had no
complications. I'm down 80lbs. since late June....it feels and looks SO
much better! I still have to fight the desires, but it IS easier now!
