Question:
Has anyone been asked by BCBS to sign a wavier before being covered for health ins.?

I am trying to get health insurance through BCBS but they want me to sign a wavier saying they won't cover any medical complications from the Gastric Bypass. Plus the premium went up from the original quote over $50. How can they tell what complications are a result from the surgery?    — jfwilson1958 (posted on October 17, 2006)

From what I understand, gall bladder surgery, revision, repair if needed, possibly even iron infusions. Be very careful, ask them what that waiver entails precisely before you sign anything!

This could also mean that if you have complications such as a leak, they will not pay for any of the medical bills attached to that. IF a complication happened no matter how big or small you would be stuck with the bill.

When did you sign up for BC? When did they approve afterwards?

HI! I work in the medical field and would STROGLY encourage you not to sign any waivers. Complications can be determined by the reader of the policy...what if you have to have your gallbladder out a year after, will they say it was becasue of surgery and not pay? The list could go on and on. The fact is that you may have health problems in the future just because of bad luck and if the "decidr" it could have been becuase of surgery you wont be covered.....best of luck!!! dee

I would suggest not to sign any waivers and if there anything you can do to help yourself as to why they suggested this in the first place. I have BCBS and my approval came so quickly I did not have time to take care of business such as build a rapport with other people at support groups since I only attended one meeting. I SUFFERRED many complications starting with having to be placed on a ventilator during surgery. Two days after discharge I was BACK in the hospital with two more complications, not to mention the acute pancreatitis this past May 2006. Now my surgeons are talking about hernia repair. These co-pays have been extremely costly having to visit doctors two - three times a month. I also had to have private-duty RN's three times a week for 8 months. You would not want to be caught with a similar situation with your pants down. Benita j Lewis

Okay, I don't get this. You have had GB and now BCBS is asking you to sign a waiver? Who covered your surgery? So, what, are insurance companies going to start asking, did you have a heart bypass, then we don't cover your heart, did you have a c-section, then we don't cover future pregnancies, did you have your tonsils removed, then we don't cover your future flu symptoms, etc. How can they even ask that???
