Question:
Kidney Stone?

I have very large stone that is going to be broken up via ultrasound waves on Wednesday. I'm almost 4 years post op and these stones came out of nowhere. I now have a stent in my kidney, uteter and bladder so the big stone won't try to pass before Wednesday. The stint is very uncomfortable. Does anybody have any experience with either the stones or the lasering procedure? Thanks! Vicki Vicki    — jazzinco (posted on October 9, 2006)

Sorry to hear about your stone, I had one back in February, but luckily they were able to give me some sort of medication that relaxes the area down there and with some good pain meds, the darn thing finally passed after alot of pain.. I have heard of the ultrasonic waves procedure and heard that it works good.. I dont have much advice other than to wish you the best and hope that it breaks up for you.. also when all is said and done pick yourself up some calcium citrate, which is a stone blocker.. Good luck!!

Hey there Vicki, I have not had the WLS yet, but I have had many kidney stones. I have also had kidney stone retrieval surgery to get a stone that was too big to pass. I remember the pain being so bad that I passed out from it! And I've had two children!!! Anyway, you'll get through the procedure just fine, just make sure to get some pain meds. The surgery was quick, non-invasive (no cutting, they just go up through your urethra), and they gave me pain meds for afterwards. I think your biggest challenge is finding out why you are getting the stones in the first place. Did you just start drinking soda again? Ask the doctor what kinds of things in your diet could be causing the stones, then, cut it out. It sucks, but worth it in the long run, you know the pain of the stones, so you know that's true! Good luck with it! Cherie

It was about 2 years ago when I had my HUGE stone. They did the ultrasound, and it worked great. It took a few weeks for all the pieces to finally get out, AND it was VERY painful at times. The best thing you can do is stay ahead of your pain meds...meaning, take your next one about 15 min or so before it's due. Also, DRINK DRINK DRINK!! The more you DRINK, the less pain you'll have & the faster it'll get out! Good Luck!!

I have had sooooo many stones!! I started having them in '97. I was told this was one down fall to having gastric bypass too, but I would rather suffer from a stone than be fat for life. I am 2 1//2 yrs out and I have had my share of them again. I have had surgery to have the stent and I have spent many times in the ER on an IV with pain meds and the last procedure was the ulrasonic waves. All they did there was put in an IV to run morphine through and then layed me on the machine, it feels like rubber bands popping me in the lower back, this was the best treatment I have had. I did have another stone back in May, while I was travelling, this has happened before and I had to get off at a local ER. I am sick of these, I have had been tested 2 times to find out what is causing them and mine is from calcium. I don't take my calcium supplements because of the stones, so I don't know what to do. I need the calcuim since gastric bypass, but once I start, here comes the stones. Someone posted that calcium citrate blocks, this I have not found to be true, that is what I take, when I do. I wish the best for you.
