Are you taking iron supplements, or something with milk of bismuth in it
(like peptobismol) or even grape koolaid or lots of green veggies?? Those
are the usual culprits- if none of them are possible you should check with
your doctor to have a stool test for hemocult (blood)- when blood comes out
the intestines unless you has a lot of frank red bleeding (usually from
hemhrorrids lower down) the blood is partially broken down and turns
blackish and sometimes greenish.

Are you taking any iron pills? They will do that also.

I am not sure if this is pre op or a post op question. That being said,
certain medication and some foods can change your stool color. A black
tarry looking stool needs to be hemoculted. This is a simple test that
your doctor can give you to do at home or he may choose to do it in his
office. Good luck.

Hi there -
Mine was green for the first month after surgery. I think its a mix of the
anesthesia, protein shakes, and the liquid diet. It got better for me once
I switched to real foods.

Mine turned a funky color after I started taking iron supplements. It says
on the package that this can happen. It does look rather scary, doesn't
it???
