Question:
Does anyone know anything about bruising?
I'm 5 months post op and I've started noticing little bruises appearing under my arms, on my legs, etc. They're not huge and there aren't too many of them, just one or two here or there. I don't know what's been causing them and I didn't know if this could be from anything to do with gastric bypass. Thanks. — SJSlesnick (posted on March 31, 2006)

Hi Sandi- bruising is pretty indicitive of protein consumption, and pretty
normal. If you notice more and more, a call to your PCP or surgeon should
be made, but bruising here and there is normal for the amount of protein we
take in. People who eat a lot of protein who havent had WLS get the
bruising too. Hope that helped. Good luck

I recommend having your doctor check your blood count to make sure your are
maintaining adequate platelet and blood cell levels. If these levels are
too low you can bruise more easily. Shelly

I have never heard of protein consumption causing bruising! I am a nurse
and i would do like the other person said and call your MD to have them
check your blood counts. Remember that we are not doctors on this site and
your physician always has the last word. Call them at last and tell them
and see what they say!

Hi there!!
Please check your b-12 in-take. I was taking too much and was having the
same problem. My Dr. told me to cut it down, and then I was fine. It
actually showed up in my bllod work that the B-12 levels were too high, and
it will cause bruising and bleeding.
Good luck to you and God Bless!

I can only speak from personal experience, so I will do that. I had those
little bruises all over my legs, and did some reading and found out a lack
of vitamin C could affect your connective tissue. I upped my C intake, and
voile', the bruises disappeared. YMMV. Regards~

you may be low on vitamin K (clotting factor) A blood test will reveal if
this is the case (and it often is)
