Question:
Anyone else have 2 silastic rings?
Went to the ER this weekend throwing up blood, the endo said I have 2 rings. This was news to me and the radiologist was also surprised. My doc told me I was getting 1 ring. I am 2 1/2 years post-op and would appreciate some feedback from you all. Thanks! — GreekAmerican (posted on March 22, 2006)

I would request a copy of your surgerical report; if your doctor put in two
it should say; then you need to ask him why two

Excuse my ignorance. What are the "rings"? I never heard of them.
Are they part of wls???

Dan, the rings are used at the stoma in a Fobi pouch to restrict movement
of the food from the pouch to the intestines. Not all RNYs have it. They
are also used in VBG surgerys for the same reason. They sometimes cause
problems if they are too tight or they can also cause ulcerations, etc. I
had a VBG as my original surgery and never had a problem with the ring per
se, just that it made eating dense protein (meat) a challenge - had to chew
it almost to liquid stage before swallowing. I just started avoiding steak
and chicken :) My surgeon removed the ring when I was revised to RNY.

For the OP, you don't say which surgery you had, and I can't get to your
profile, but I would think 2 rings would be unusual. Call your surgeon and
double check.
