Question:
Has anyone had the LAP banding? If so, how much weight have you lost?

I am scheduled for The LAP banding next week and I keep hearing alot of people say that they have not lost any weight. I would just like to get some input from other people.    — casinocat74 (posted on December 7, 2005)

It totally depends on who you talk to. I'm three months post op, and down 44 pounds. It's very possible, but it takes good compliance to the Band rules to make it happen. I have no doubt in my mind that the Band works, I've seen it and lived it myself. I have no complications, just good health and lots of energy. If you are ready to take control of your eating and food choices, the Band will work. Fail to follow the rules most of the time and losing will be much harder.

hey, wanted to let you know the band will work as long as you do:) i was banded a year ago and although the loss as has been slow, i am at goal and very happy with the whole experience. honestly it has been very easy for me--never counted calories or dieted in any form...just followed the basic rules: no drinking when eating, eat protein first, and eat slowly. i eat what i want, when i want and i lose weight--for me this WAS the magic pill:) good luck, you will do great!

Hi Teresa, I had the Lap band 7 months ago and have lost 120 lbs. so far. It hasn't been real easy but it's up to the individual. I have been quite aggressive in having the Band adjusted. I even went a little to far with it and just yesterday had to have it loosened a little because I couldn't keep much down. But the results have been as good as if I had the RNY. I was told that most people don't lose as much or as fast as people that have had the RNY, but I think I've proved that it can be just as effective. As I said, it hasn't been easy, but after having gone through the surgery I was determined to use this tool to the full capabilities. I hope this helps you, and Good Luck in your journey. Bill

Hi Teresa, I had the RNY but I wanted to let you know I think the band is effective. My husband was banded on April 8, 2005 with a starting weight of 356 lbs and as of last week he is down 101 lbs already and looking great I might add. My sister had the lapband surgery in July and in 4 months she has lost 49 lbs, not to shabby right? It does require compliance but if you are postive and have faith in yourself you will be a success. Wishing you the best on your journey. Dana

I had my lap band done in August and am thrilled with the results! I'm down 42 lbs. It takes a lot of work. The band will not work by itself. I swim a minimum of three nights a week. Exercise and diet are a huge part of it. You have to be committed to making this a lifetime change. Good Luck!

You need to join a bandsters group. There is one called SmartBandsters, and KentuckianaBandsters and many more. Enter bandsters into your search and you will find a lot of groups you can join and ask questions. I remember reading that someone had lost more than they then weighed. I had considered it but changed my mind.
