Question:
Have you heard about a change in policy by Medical Mutual?
I was recently told by my surgeons office that Medical Mutual (I have Ohio Med PPO) is putting a $10,000.00 lifetime cap on coverage for WLS. This apparently goes into effect on 7/1/2003. I was approved for surgery in mid-May and they are my secondary insurance. Fortunately, I will have my surgery in 2 days so it won't affect my coverage (hopefully). Has anybody else been told about this? — Carolyn M. (posted on June 10, 2003)

My Fathers company has mmo and they sent him a notice about this cause he
is the business owner and he passed the info. on to me. I couldn't believe
this. Don't they understand what a serious problem obesity is????

I just called to double check my plan with Medical Mutual (Supermed plus)
and the customer service rep. told me that she didn't have anything on
that. I wonder if it is just for certain PPOs.

Original poster here. I also called the administrator of Ohio Med and they
said they didn't have anything either, but that their systems won't be
updated until the last week of June so that they don't give out incorrect
information. I also called the benefits coordinator for the State of Ohio
and they told me they didn't know anything about it, however, my surgeons
office insists that they received a memo on it. We just had open
enrollment in May and I don't understand how they can change coverage after
open enrollment but put the change into effect on the first day of
coverage. My thought was that perhaps it only applied to certain policies,
but I don't know since nobody seems to have the info.
