Question:
Did Al Roker have Gastric Bypass Surgery?
A friend of mine just told me this. I haven't heard it mentioned anywhere else, so I don't know if it is true. Has anyone else heard about Al? — Cheri M. (posted on April 7, 2002)

Cheri,
There is a RUMOR going around that he did have the surgery. His journal
entry of March 27th hints at him having some type of surgery. He has NOT
officially stated that he had WLS. Until he does, we should all give him
some respect. I am sure that NO ONE would appreciate having rumors spread
about them. Cheri, I am not saying this to you. You were just asking. I
have read some comments on the message board lately that all but say he DID
have it and that he said so in his journal. Go read the journal
everyone...he did NOT say that in there. Maybe he DID have it, but he
isn't ready to talk about it yet. We will all know when he wants us to.

According to one of the gossip magazines (Enquirer, Star or one of them),
he did have it. Who knows.

EITHER HE HAD GASTRIC BYPASS OR HE IS ON A MAJOR DIET!!
HE LOOKS GREAT, I WATCH THE TODAY SHOW EVERYDAY AND I NOTICED HIS
WEIGHTLOSS BEFORE I HAD HEARD ANYTHING, AS FAR AS HIS JOURNAL IS CONCERNED,
IT DOESNT SAY HE HAD THE SURGERY,BUT I DONT THINK THIS IS A HUGE SECRET, IM
SURE HE WILL TALK ABOUT IT SOON, WHEN HE IS READY.
ITS EXCITING THAT A T.V PERSONALITY WOULD HAVE THIS DONE, IT WILL BE FUN TO
WATCH HIS PROGRESS EVERYDAY!! BECKY

I don't know if he had WLS, but I think he is married to the 20/20 reporter
(Deborah Roberts) who just did a piece about RNY. Quite a coincidence! :-)

For all those who wanted to know about the journal, sorry, I should have
posted the address. Not quite sure, as I copied and pasted when I went
there, but I think it was www.roker.com

Thank you for posting the website. I went there and he does mention having
a surgery, and that there is talk about what he had done. He wouldn't
confirm anything that has been said but did say this: 'It will become
apparent in the weeks and months ahead'. 'I will become healthier and
healthier'. I guess we need to draw our own conclusions and state nothing
as fact.

This isn't really an answer, just a thought. We all know by now that Al
Roker had the surgery. What gets me is that he is now hosting a show on
Food Network. Why would someone who has had problems controlling themselves
around food, and he admitted he had problems, want to host a show where you
eat? Maybe it's just me, but it doesn't seem like a job that someone who
has had weight loss surgery should have.
