Question:
Going to Disney this week...
I'm worried that I won't get my protein and water in. A friend of mine just got back and said that the water in the fountain tastes disgusting. I was planning on refilling my H2O bottles during the day instead of spending $2 a bottle 5x a day for 4 days. That really adds up. Any other suggestions? I probably will just have to deal with it huh? And I worry about not getting in my protein. Anyone else done this or had a similar situation on vacation? Any suggestions would be appreciated. almost 5 mo. PO. — Cheri M. (posted on March 25, 2002)

go to a wal-mart or a grocery store close by and buy some bottled
water...carry 2 24oz bottles with you during the day in a back pack...also
pack yourself some protein snacks in the back pack--protein bars, or nuts
etc. (I wouldn't recommend cheese LOL) but, that should get you through
the days. I have done that when we have gone out for family outings (zoo,
etc.) You should be fine. Have a great time and say hi to Mickey for me.

Just got back from Disney a couple of weeks ago. I am 15 months post-op and
found eating at Disney to be a little bit of a challenge. Usually we're all
on budgets and time constraints and unfortunately, eating inexpensively and
quickly at Disney means fried or greasy food. I tried to stick with salads
that had chicken in it. The food courts at your resort usually have some
heathful items. As far as H2O, I purchased bottles of water beforehand
(grocery store) and just packed a couple of them in my day bags. I did not
do so well with eating at Disney, but because there is so much walking, I
came back weighing less. Hope this helps.

Cheri, I live in St. Pete, FL so Disneyworld is almost a weekly outing.
Eating...it can be challenging, especially if you and your family are in a
hurry and want to eat at one of those cornerside stands. But, as for
water, I found something that works pretty well. I belong to AAA. When I
went to renew my annual pass, they had some insulated bags, with shoulder
straps that really keeps your drinks cold...and a zipper on top that keeps
things hot. My suggestion would be to get yourself an insulated bag of
some kind. Either take your own pack of bottled water with you...or if
you're flying, buy it at a store in Orlando, but not IN Disney. Just load
up, and take your drinks in the bag with you. If you want any other
suggestions like the restraunts in all the different parks, etc. email me
[email protected]
Have fun!

I usually bring beef jerkey with me whenever I am traveling. It's light,
takes up no room, and I can munch on it throughout the day. I usually stay
in hotels with mini-refrigerators, and also pack a few bottles of protein
supplement and drink one in the morning before heading out to the park.
Between the two, I don't need to worry about what I'm eating. -Kate-

One thing I do when I go to Disney is get a few gallons of water at the
grocery store. Then I freeze once each night and take that will me. Since
my son needed a stroller, this was easy to carry. Between the 4 of us,
we'd go through a gallon of nice, ice cold water every day.

I would agree with all the great suggestions that people have offered here.
There are some resturants in Disney that you can get non-fried food. If
memory serves me right, there is a resturant in Frontier land that serves
Bar-Q and smoked chicken. Also, it is easy to leave the park and go to one
of the park hotels for lunch (a little more money, but you could probably
share a meal with someone in your party). I hope this helps. Have a good
time.

With a family of 6, we are always looking for ways to decrease our meal
expenses. When we go to Disneyworld, we take our lunch in a collapsable
cooler. I make sandwiches, take yogurt, pudding, grapes and applesauce
cups. In a separate bags we bring the snack type foods (crackers, peanuts,
etc...)We are able to eat/snack all day. We alwas seem to start the day in
Fantasy land. So, by lunchtime, we are at the restaurant with Gepetto and
Pinnochio. We've gone indoors and sat and opened up our cooler and no one
has ever said anything to us. (except those other families who were envious
of our frugalness!!!) We also carry water bottles and refill them. I think
the water is just fine. Maybe your friend found a fountain that wasn't so
good. Many of the restaurants have fountains inside. For our dinners, we
get to eat at one of the restaurants. The kids thoroughly enjoy the day. Of
course, we also allow them a nice treat like an ice cream bar. We've been
going to disney for many years. I will have to say, we've always had a
stroller and this makes it easier to transport these things. As the day
goes on, the cooler and bag get lighter and lighter!! Disneyworld is one of
my favorite places to be. I am soooooo jealous~ have a great time! Shelley

Disney and Orlando water is YUK!!! You could take some sugar free kool aid
or crysatall lite powder and mix with a single water bottle while in the
park, fill from fountains the water is free. Little to carry. Disney is
GREAT! You will have a wonderful time! Just be sure to get enough water in!

I went to Disneyworld last month. First of all -had a terrific time. Went
all by myself and enjoyed ALL the rides! Second - I brought some fruit
(sturdy fruit like apples or pears work best), some pre-packaged nuts, and
some wheat crackers. When I was hungry, I just stopped at a bench and had a
snack. The walking was great exercise and I didn't spend a fortune. (The
tickets to get in were high enough!).
