Question:
Can someone tell me a little about 'Curves for Women'?
I have seen 'Curves' mentioned here before and I am in the market of finding a good health club. We just got a new one in town so the # isn't listed. I know how most clubs work you with their 'high pressure sales' to get you to sign a contract. So, I just wanted the low-down from you guys. I did call a couple of gyms and they won't price quote over the phone. What's the big secret? Anyway, is 'Curves' different from all the others? If so, how, and how much is the average monthly rate? Do you have to sign a contract or just pay as you go? What do they have to offer? — Cheri M. (posted on January 16, 2002)

I just got a Mom/Daughter membership at Christmas. It was 75.00 for us to
join and 29.00 a month for me, 10.00 a month for my daughter. I signed a yr
contract but they do have a 3 month, I did not know this until after I
signed the year, so ask. they are having specials for the beginning of the
year also. I really like it. It is a 30 min workout. A tape prompts you to
move every 30 secs to the next machine or board. You do a machine, then run
or step on a board, then machine, board, ect. You make 3 laps in 30 mins
and you are done. It is a lot of fun and I have found all to be nice there.
They will measure and weigh you monthly, or you can do it at home if you
prefer. Ask for a trial 1 month membership to check it out.
Good luck.

Hi...to add to the previous poster... they also told me that they will not
charge me during the period I am having surgery and recovery so I thought
that was a pretty good deal. I have heard from others on here though that
I should be very careful post op with the machines as the force might be
tough on incisional areas, etc. To avoid crunches, etc. Good luck to you.

I belong to Curves for Women and really enjoy the program. The only
problem is that their hours are the furthest from convenient! My Curves is
open from 8-10:30am, then 3:30 to 7pm Monday through Friday, Saturdays from
8 to 10:30. That's it! Not very convenient if you ask me! My friend
belongs to Curves in another city and their hours are the same! If your
Curves has better hours, by all means, join! It's a great workout, the
ladies are all wonderful, and you don't have to worry about "looking
great" while you're sweating! Check it out!

I felt I must answer this question. I had RNY surg. 10 weeks ago. I have
lost 57 pounds! I also own 2 Curves for Women franchises here in Alabama.
I LOVE Curves of course!
If you call the Curves in your area, chances are they won't quote you the
prices over the phone either. Our rates are VERY low, however, as a part
of our training, we prefer to invite you in for a FREE tour and figure
analysis and at that time tell you about the different programs we are
offering. To tell you a little about Curves: we are specially designed for
women and in just 30 minutes you can get in your aerobic and strength
training workout. It is a lot of fun because we focus on making it as fun
and AWESOME as possible so you will look forward to coming everyday! As far
as the price goes, the most popular program is just $29 month. We have
programs where you sign a 12 month contract or those where you sign no
contract. It's all up to what you prefer! I suggest you go on in. I'm sure
they would love to have you and this is a perfect time, in January we run
MANY specials.
(By the way, we have those crazy hours because according to Curves studies,
most women don't exercise in the middle of the day. Curves reccomends M-F
only from 9a-12p and 4p-7p. Every Curves does their own hours and you
should check with yours to see what theirs are. It does seem weird I
guess)
Good Luck in your fitness goals!

CURVES SOUNDS GREAT AS LONG AS YOU DO NOT WORK A FULL TIME JOB WITH KIDS TO
PICK UP AFTER YOU LEAVE THAT JOB. THE HOURS THEY ARE OPEN ARE APPARENTLY
FOR STAY AT HOME WOMEN OR MOMS. YOU WOULD THINK THEY WOULD OPEN AT LIKE 5
OR 6 IN THE AM FOR THE WORKING CLASS. I THINK THE HOURS A JOKE BUT THE
CONCEPT IS WONDERFUL.
