Anthem Blue cross Blue Sheild

I have Anthem Blue cross Blue Sheild, Blue Care Plus~ Can some one with this insurance please tell me what their requirements for this surgery is? And if it is hard to get approval from them? thanks ~    — [Anonymous] (posted on May 31, 2001)

It will help us to know what state you are in. I had Anthem BC/BS of Colorado. My bmi is 42, basic comorbs, not much in the way of supervised diets, approval took 2 business days. I had Anthem and I wish I still had them for coverage. They required you to be morbidly obese for a period of 5 yrs. Nonsurgical treatment for obesity that is supervised by a physcian for a period of 18 consecutive months and a BMI of at least 35 kilograms with existed co-morbidities such as hypertension, cardiopulmonary conditions, sleep apnea, or diabetes or/ a BMI of at least 40 kilograms withoout any co-morbidity. My hubbys insurance changed in the middle of the approval process and now I have to deal with Great West/One Health Plan. They have to be the worst. They claim that they are the exact same coverage as Anthem, but so far I have gotten screwed on coverage. Great West sucks!
