Question:
I cannot drink water it makes my stomach hurt and tastes really bad post-op
Since I had surgery (ds) I have not been able to take in water for some reason, it hurts my stomach and also tastes really bad. I am drinking orange juice mixed with water that's the only way I can get in water but I am sure it will cause me to loose weight much slower being that it has about 150 cal. per serving. I am now down 37 pds in 6weeks is this normal or slow? Please anyone advise! — TANGIE B. (posted on January 12, 2001)

MY SUGGESTION TO YOU IS GO GET SOME CRYSTAL LITE IT TASTES PREETY GOOD AND
IT HAS HARDLY ANY CALORIES AND IT HELPS GET THE WATER DOWN AND I THINK YOUR
WEIGHT LOSS IS GREAT. DO KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK.

I have had the same problem. Go to the nearest Sonic and order a bag of
their shaved ice. Eat the chunks. That is the only way I can stand to get
my water in. My tummy hurts when I drink it and it makes me feel queezy.
Hope this helps.

I had the same problem(still do), I agree with the crystal lite especially
the Body Quenchers they have protein and vitamins , for practically no
calories.

Tangie, first of all, 37 pounds in 6 weeks is a good amount. Don't fall
into a trap of comparing yourself with those around you. Sometimes you will
be the "big" loser and other times you will feel like the slow
one. The one that the surgery is not going to work for. You are going to be
fine. Try to pay attention to the new things you can do and the places you
fit, the way clothes fit and the new energy you are going to find yourself
with. Use those things to judge how you are doing. The numbers are fickle.
They never seem to match what I feel. That is probably the most consistent
thing I have noticed about the awesome ride. I may feel really great and
"thin" and beautiful and then I get on the scales and notice that
they have not moved for two weeks. Then I start to feel flabby and nasty
and when I weigh, I find that I have lost 10 pounds. UGH!!! It makes no
sense. I know that was not the main question but it was stuck in
there...lol. The water...eat ice and splurge on some bottled water if you
have not already. Something a little cleaner than tap might sit in your
tummy better. If you are already doing that, start diluting your OJ. You
will cut back on calories that way and eventually maybe you can tolerate
the water better. I never did Crystal Lite because I have a mental aversion
to the chemicals that they use to sweeten it. Just my personal opinion. It
works great for a lot of people here. :)

Please call your doc first thing Monday and ask about being checked for a
marginal ulcer. I had one after another, after another, which is just the
way my body operates. But it made water taste like metal, RUSTY OLD metal,
and the water hurt going through. The test and the fix are very do-able,
but you can't pretend it doesn't exist. If the outlet becomes irritated,
getting water in becomes a MAJOR problem. This is one for the doc.
